ABOUT THE ROLE

The Geospatial Database Administrator will act as the database administrator and data steward for geospatial data assets for the Geography team at CoStar.  This position will play a critical role in modernizing our program by deploying and maintaining new technologies, developing our technical architecture strategy, ensuring seamless database integration of our data with CoStar’s enterprise system, making hardware and software licensing recommendations for our team, and ultimately advancing our ability to create innovative geospatial solutions.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Manage CoStar’s ArcGIS Enterprise geospatial databases, ensuring their high performance and reliability.

Manage the installation, upgrades, monitoring, and integration of our geospatial databases.

Deploy geospatial data updates to our databases within specified timelines and within service level agreements.

Develop and document database architecture, interdependencies, and operational processes.

Automate processes to enhance system efficiency and reduce manual workload.

Perform system backups and ensure high availability in coordination with server administrators.

Troubleshoot and resolve GIS system issues, including after-hours incidents as needed.

Support backend development for geospatial applications, including ETL scripts (e.g., Python, FME).

Provide technical expertise on database security, performance, and GIS-related architectural design.

Evaluate emerging technologies and propose upgrades to software, hardware, and system configurations.

Maintain compliance with organizational policies for database access and permissions.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in Geographic Information Systems, Computer/Software Engineering, or related fields.

5+ years of experience in GIS database management, specifically with ArcGIS Enterprise deployment, configuration, maintenance, monitoring, and performance tuning.

Microsoft SQL Server Management experience required.

Knowledge of database automation and ETL tools specifically related to spatial data.

Experience managing GIS data layers using version control and performing scheduled database reconcile/post processes.

Experience in implementing and/or migrating GIS technologies to a cloud environment.

Excellent organizational skills and proven ability to meet deadlines.

The ability to prepare and present complex technical information to non-technical audiences.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Other Relational Database Management experience either MySQL or PostgreSQL.

Experience solving data engineering problems with any NoSQL data platforms like Spark, Solr, MongoDB, DocumentDB, DynamoDB, Cosmos DB

Knowledge of monitoring tools such as Kibana, AWS CloudWatch, DataDog, etc
