GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF ROLE: As a Geospatial Research Analyst, you will be working in the International Natural Catastrophe Research Team which consists of 30 people based in India, New Zealand, Australia UK, Singapore, Japan, and USA. Most of the team have a technical background in Natural Catastrophe Modelling and peril specialisms (Meteorologists, Hydrologists, Geologists and Structural Engineers) with proficiencies in data science, geospatial research and programming. The team’s goal is to analyse the associated risk of natural perils, evaluate vendor Catastrophe models (RMS/Verisk) and build out independent views of risk. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES : + Collecting, manipulating, and interrogating spatial data for use in risk-based pricing products related to natural hazards. + Performing geospatial and scientific data analysis relating to natural hazards across Australia and New Zealand. Over time, this analysis would expand into the Asia Pacific region. + Developing and managing SQL-based databases relating to natural hazard risk. + Researching natural hazard risk in relation to the built environment and bringing in new data and insights to support existing risk-based pricing products related to natural hazards. + Engaging with stakeholders through the management of specific programs of work. + Developing effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. + Bachelor’s or master’s degree in relevant field of study: GIS, Natural Hazards, Physical Geography or Earth Science. + Advanced geospatial analysis experience (ESRI and/or QGIS) for spatial analytics, preferably using natural hazard related data. + Strong knowledge of SQL and experience with relational databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server). SKILLS/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED : + Proven analytical skills. Prior analytical and problem-solving experience from academic and/or business environment. + Strong organizational skills including the ability to manage multiple assignments, work well with minimal supervision and meet deadlines in a timely manner. + Ability to think strategically and analytically as well as work independently and take initiative. + Experience in coding language commonly used within the geospatial industry e.g., Python. + An understanding of the (re)insurance industry is an advantage but not essential. + Confident and self-driven individual; has Can-Do attitude; Ability to work in teams and do multi-tasking; ability to maintain good interpersonal relationships. + Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate well with others externally and internally. Well-rounded communication skills and ability to interact with variety of audiences.
