Steelmaking Coal
Steelmaking coal is an essential ingredient in blast-furnace steel manufacture, producing steel used for critical building and infrastructure around the world. In Australia, we operate two open cut and three underground Steelmaking coal mines in Queensland’s Bowen Basin, every year producing millions of tonnes of the highest quality hard coking coal for this purpose.
Reporting to the Geotechnical Superintendent, you will use your technical expertise to assist the Technical Services Team develop sound mine designs, which enable the depletion of the deposit in a safe and productive manner, as well as assist the site in all strata control matters at Capcoal Lake Lindsay Mine in Middlemount, QLD.
Key responsibilities include:
Gather geotechnical data through wall mapping, exploration logging & samplingAssist the Mine Production Teams in managing geotechnical hazards on siteInvestigation of geotechnical hazards and the development of risk mitigation strategies in line with the site’s Principal Hazard Management PlanUtilise your experience of the coal mining process and geotechnical modelling software to deliver achievable and efficient mine designs/plans.Provide geotechnically sound stability assessments of life of mine, Mid-term & Short-term stagesAssist the site’s geology team in developing, executing exploration programs including geotechnical sampling and loggingDevelop & maintaining geotechnical databases for rock mass strength, defect strength & defect mappingDeveloping and maintaining the Ground Control Hazard Plans and Geotechnical Domains based on the most up to date geological and geotechnical dataPerforming pit reconciliations and pit floor sign-off to ensure sufficient floor treatment for future dump stabilityQualificationsTo be successful you will have the following:
Bachelor of Engineering (Geotechnical or Mining)Demonstrated experience in a similar role in an open cut mining context, particularly coal mining, will be highly regardedDemonstrated experience contributing to a team of professionals to deliver against set targets.In depth knowledge of Geotechnical hazards, as well as the relevant mitigation strategies.Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to identify and address geotechnical challenges.Adherence to safety regulations and a commitment to creating a safe working environment for all team members.Additional InformationFull-time, permanent position Monday to FridayFlexible work options available, including 9 day fortnightFIFO, DIDO, Residential optionsRelocation Assistance ProvidedMiddlemount Housing and Assistance (Sal Sac)Attractive Salary & Annual Bonus + 12% SuperannuationFree access to Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
