Dimensions

This position reports to the Mine Technical Superintendent. 

Purpose To complete in-field geotechnical assessments including but not limited to bolting job task observations, pull testing support tendons, heading inspections, ground support audits and surface stockpile monthly inspectionsTo use historical performance, industry best practice prediction tools and analysis as well as instrumentation to advise technical team on geotechnical risk mitigation measures for development and longhole stoping.To improve communication of geotechnical-related items through clear and concise engineering prints, meaningful contributions to meetings and positive collaborations with the workforce.Essential Duties Be familiar with the site Ground Control Management Plan and ensure that Mine Operations are adhering to the guidance and requirements outlined in it.Perform inspections of underground workings as well as utilize information provided by the instrumentation systems to proactively assess ground control risk and ensure ground support systems are adequate to mitigate geotechnical risk to workers.Perform quality control audits of ground support materials and installations, including assessments such as pull tests, torque tests, shotcrete strength tests, etc., to verify effectiveness of ground support.Review long hole master prints to ensure blast plan supports stope stability risk mitigation measures.Carry out daily management tasks to ensure quality backfilling of workings, including developing fill plans for individual stopes and preparing appropriate backfill prints.Address geotechnical issues documented in the ground control logbook as appropriate.Review of other engineering prints to ensure geotechnical risk/hazards are identified and ground support outlined is appropriate for the local ground conditions.Design rehabilitation and cable prints using Deswik, outlining site specific ground support installations.Participate in weekly planning meetings and pre-site inspections to provide geotechnical input; specifically advise on geotechnical risk considerations and mitigation measures.Assist in providing geotechnical hazard identification training to workforce.Support communication initiatives to inform the workforce of geotechnical activities.Participate in other geotechnical-related tasks outlined by the Geotechnical SuperintendentTraining & Experience Mining Technician Diploma, Mining Technologist Diploma or Bachelor of Science in Mining or Geotechnical Engineering or equivalentAbility to register with professional designation would be considered an assetHave a minimum of 3 years working in rock mechanics or at an underground mining operation.Familiarity with Deswik, Map3D, RS2 and Unwedge would be considered an assetWorking Conditions

This is a site based position supporting Porcupine Gold Mines near Timmins, ON

The schedule is 4 days on 3 days off
