About the role

The Geotechnical Superintendent reports to the Director of Technical Services, Mining. He/She provides safe, cost-effective, and practical geotechnical solutions to maintain and improve the integrity of underground excavations at Éléonore.
Given the complex nature of the Éléonore mine deposit, the Geotechnical Superintendent will bring innovative and robust initiatives. He/She must have a solid understanding of seismicity, ground control, and risk management strategies.

Essential Duties Ensure the safety of workers by overseeing the geotechnical aspects of underground mining operations according to the site’s ground control management program.Supervise and mentor the team of geotechnical engineers and technicians in the field.Collaborate with the geotechnical team to define and develop geotechnical standards, norms, and processes.Ensure that geotechnical information and professional, geological, and geotechnical advice provided are accurate, delivered in a timely manner to the operations teams, and correctly implemented on-site.Participate in development and provide design advice to geotechnical staff to ensure that underground development proposals are practical and efficient for maximizing reserve and resource recovery.Develop long-term geotechnical strategies for underground operations, considering evolving geological conditions and operational forecasts.Lead the technical aspects of backfilling excavation work, including the paste backfill program.Design and recommend appropriate support systems for tunnels, shafts, and other underground infrastructure in a seismic context.Collaborate with geotechnical engineering consultants for various studies and technical support required to meet objectives.Continue existing research and development projects while seeking additional opportunities to improve both processes and execution of ground support.Perform any other related tasks as required by the role.Training & Experience Bachelor's degree in mining or geological engineering, preferably with a specialization in geotechnical engineering or rock mechanics.At least 15 years of experience in mining, the majority of which should be in hard rock underground mining.Strong operational knowledge and competency in interpreting digital modeling tools such as DIPS, UNWEDGE, MAP3D, MXRAP, FLAC3D, and PHASE2.Mining modules 1 to 5 and 7.Valid general explosives permit.Member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec.Bilingualism, French and English is an asset.Skills and competencies Practical experience managing geotechnical programs in an underground operation.In-depth knowledge of geotechnics and ground control plans.Experience using backfill as ground support, including paste backfill.Strong technical writing skills, group presentation ability, and interpersonal skills, including cultural sensitivity.Analytical and problem-solving skills.Strong organizational skills.Working Conditions Schedule: 8 days of work followed by 6 days of rest, 4 days of work followed by 3 days of rest.Éléonore mine site (Fly-in, Fly-out from Montreal, Chibougamau, Matagami, Rouyn-Noranda, Val D'Or and Wemindji)
