32Job Description:The GI Reprocessing Technician performs manual cleaning and reprocessing of GI and Pulmonary endoscopes, equipment and accessories. The position also includes monitoring preventative maintenance for automatic endoscope reprocessors. Additional responsibilities include maintaining adequate reprocessing supplies for the department.
Major Responsibilities:
1. Performs manual cleaning and reprocessing of 14 different types of GI endoscopes and 2 different types of Pulmonary bronchoscopes, equipment and accessories.
2. Routinely inspect all equipment and reusable items. Take all items needing repair out of service and complete appropriate processing for repair.
3. Work with high-level disinfectants and cleaning solutions and read and interpret appropriate MSDS and manufacturers instructions.
4. Maintains and demonstrates proper use and disposal of gluteraldehyde products for reprocessing purposes.
5. Follow mandatory safety precautions to prevent harm from chemicals used for reprocessing.
6. Maintain quality control by monitoring, reading, documenting, and interpreting all parameters for reprocessers to insure proper function.
7. Dispose of all biohazard products per departmental procedures.
8. Perform correct and appropriate data entry, understand and utilize computers for generating data and requisitioning goods.
9. Maintain system and department competencies by attending department meetings, in-services, and annual updates.
10. Precept and train new employees to the position.
11. Demonstrate accountability by providing high quality customer service, through communication and service to the GI staff and other departments.
12. Review and follow departmental policies and procedures by reviewing the manuals.
13. Order and puts away supplies and linens as needed.
14. Adheres to regular and predictable attendance.
15. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Education and Learning:
REQUIRED
High School Diploma or equivalency
DESIRED
Post High School education in a specialized field: Graduate of an accredited Operating Room Technician or Central Service Technician program
Work Experience:
REQUIRED
1 year experience working in healthcare.
DESIRED
6 months Experience in central supply or surgical/procedural area.
License and Certifications:
DESIRED
Certified Central Service Tech (CRCST)
