Job Location: 755 Jefferson Street, Atlanta, GA 

Job Summary:  

This position resides within the Geographic Solutions and Services organization and is responsible for the input, processing, and maintenance of Distribution data in accordance with GSS work procedures and Southern Company GIS Data strategy.  This position requires the ability to create, edit and extract GIS data. Also, the GIS Specialist will ensure projects are completed accurately and within required deadlines. 

Education Requirements:

Associate’s degree or Certificate in GIS is required Bachelor’s Degree in GIS, Geography preferred 
  

Experience Requirements: 

Working knowledge of enterprise GIS database  Basic knowledge of utility systems (electrical systems is a plus)  Maintain high standards for data quality within all applications

Job Responsibilities: 

Post edits to the DistGIS database accurately and timely Create specialized map products using ESRI mapping applications Perform analysis using ESRI GIS tools Reconcile database conflicts and take appropriate action to improve database performance Ensure to maintain customer accuracy by properly linking metered accounts Ensure to update the distribution model using GSS applications  Demonstrate ownership of assigned work Demonstrate ability to troubleshoot problems and implement solutions Work within a flexible, fast changing team environment ensuring customer needs are met
