Job Description

Huntington Ingalls Industries currently has an opening for a Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) Analyst supporting the Joint Staff J7 in Suffolk, VA.  The GIS Specialist Associate serves as a member of a cross-functional team responsible for the development of geospatial data content and simulations terrain supporting virtual, constructive and gaming training exercises and operations.  This position will support the ongoing development of CDB (Common DataBase), a standardized GIS content and model definition repository; in support of the Joint Training Data Services (JTDS) Terrain Generation Service (TGS) capability.

Essential Job Responsibilities

•    Acquire imagery, elevation, and vector data from various sources
•    Convert acquired and/or existing geospatial data and simulation databases to data consistent with the CDB specification
•    Ensure data correlation and compatibility between data sources
•    Develop, test and document workflow processes
•    Research and evaluate emerging technologies for their applicability to CDB development
•    Serve as the subject matter expert on the production and maintenance of the Joint Staff J7 CDB repository
•    Additional geospatial tasks, to include data generation, conversion, processing, analysis and manipulation
•    Experience using Microsoft Office Products such as PowerPoint, Word, Excel and Outlook is required
•    On-site support required (Must Interface with customers on a daily basis)
•    US Citizen and the ability to obtain a DOD SECRET security clearance 
 

Minimum Qualifications

•    BA/BS in Geography, GIS, OR technical certification in similar discipline and 0-2 yrs of experience or equivalent experience.  
•    May consider experience in military or private industry in lieu of degree or technical certificate. 
•    In some cases, educational requirements may be adjusted or waived for more than 4 years applicable work experience.
•    1- 2 year’s work or equivalent classroom experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software
 

Preferred Requirements

•    Working knowledge of commercial GIS software packages, including ESRI ArcMap, ERDAS Imagine, and Blue Marble Global Mapper is required.  Experience with Presagis Terra Vista is preferred
•    Working knowledge of the CDB specification is highly desirable
•    Experience with one or more 3D model generation software tools such as Presagis Creator or 3D Studio Max is desirable
•    Experience with simulation development using GIS data is a plus
•    Knowledge of GeoServer and the Web Map Service (WMS) standards is preferred
•    Ability to communicate professionally with external contacts and at all levels of the organization
