GleanMobile Volunteer Program Coordinator - Middletown, NY
The Cornell Cooperative Extension Orange County GleanMobile Program works to help improve healthy life choices among families and individuals encompassing all age groups throughout the Hudson Valley, working with community agencies throughout the region. The GleanMobile Volunteer Program Coordinator will primarily be responsible for volunteer coordination to organize and coordinate activities relating to the GleanMobile programs and events; coordinate all aspects of registration and reporting process for field gleaning events; assist in the coordination of deliveries; assist in scheduling of pickups and deliveries; gather gleaned produce/resources; provide guidance to volunteers and staff; collection of data and create evaluation reports. This position will also assist in the coordination and delivery of the Nourish New York grant program, collecting and maintaining Nourish New York records. Represent CCE before the public, community leaders, government officials, Cornell University, and other land grant universities in a professional manner as part of program delivery. This is a grant-funded, non-exempt position working 40.0 hours. There are two separate positions for the GleanMobile Program. This position supports the program but works primarily with the volunteers as listed below. The other position supports the program, donations and other details. Note the different required qualifications and pay rate as well as the responsibilities. Required Qualifications: + Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent, with course work in Sociology, Food Systems including Hotel/Restaurant Management, Agriculture, or related field. Associates' Degree and two years' related experience is acceptable. + Experience relevant to the role of the position. + Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position. + Ability to meet acceptable background and motor vehicle check standards as required. + Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate. + Ability to analyze issues and to initiate, plan, organize, implement, and evaluate informal educational programs addressing diverse audiences in assigned areas. + Ability to utilize computer technology to prepare reports and proposals, communicate internally and externally, prepare visuals, access information. + Experience with public presentations in small and large groups. + Ability to relate effectively to co-workers, advisors, community and professional leaders, and clientele groups. + Ability to utilize resources effectively. + Ability to identify, recruit and manage volunteers. + Ability to identify and utilize program resources within the community. + Ability to communicate effectively through oral, written, and visual channels using traditional educational tools as well as electronic technology (e.g., video, audio, computers, etc.). + Ability/willing to learn to drive a box truck and cargo van; no commercial license needed. + Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds regularly. Preferred Qualifications: + Coursework or experience in volunteer management and food safety and/or Agriculture. + Ability to communicate in Spanish both verbally and in writing. Responsibilities/Essential Functions: Program Responsibilities: Program Delivery – 10% + May occasionally apply subject matter knowledge to assist supervisor with the creation of innovative materials for delivery to participants of the GleanMobile Program. + Deliver educational materials to impact audiences through a variety of delivery methods, with support from supervisor, utilizing all forms of mass media and social media. + Foster acceptance of program, methods, and policies to address community and individual needs and consider diverse audiences. + Foster acceptance of the program by maintaining good working relationships with community-based agencies, volunteers, and other appropriate linkages to further enhance the program. + Serve as a subject matter resource for staff, volunteers, program participants, and other groups as they are identified. Provide standard responses and assist as needed in providing moderately complex nonstandard responses. + Serve as a team member and cooperate with the entire Association to achieve Association program delivery goals. + Extend educational resources and help participants make connections to subject matter volunteers, other Extension programs and community resources. + May assist in ensuring that program delivery is within scope of the statewide Plan of Work. + Represent CCE before the public, community leaders, government officials, Cornell, or other land grant universities as part of program delivery. + May be involved in multidisciplinary team efforts within the Association or regionally to deliver program. Administrative Responsibilities: Direction – 5% + Assist with the planning of delivery of established educational program goals. + Assist Supervisor with identifying key relationships to build/sustain with community leaders and stakeholders. + Assist in identifying program needs with supervisor, advisory committees, and program participants. + May provide input to the communications strategy based on program feasibility. + May assist with financial direction of program to include planning for program expenses and budgets as well as financial resources for program continuance and enhancement. Management – 5% + Provide Volunteer management and orientation with support from Food Security Program Manager. + Provide existing guidance to program volunteers in accordance with established practices and procedures. + With Food Security Program Manager, support volunteer recruitment and involvement. + Serve as an accessible resource to volunteers by providing follow-up support to ensure initial and continued program success. + May solve problems and resolve conflicts that arise in the operation of the program, utilizing appropriate policies and procedures. + Provide guidance and oversight to program staff. + Give guidance to volunteers and staff, including those performing similar work. + Provide low-complexity administrative tasks in guiding the implementation of communication strategies on particular program/function. Coordination/Operation – 75% + Provide routine/administrative tasks to support the delivery of program goals, i.e., coordinate all aspects of registration and reporting process for field gleaning events; assist in the coordination of GleanMobile programs and/or events; gather gleaned produce/resources; collection of data; maintenance of data, create reports to agencies. + Maintain records of participants, agencies, farms, complete reports and accurately collect and prepare paperwork as required for program goals and evaluation process. + Submit program related expense receipts and vouchers to Supervisor or Finance for approval. + In collaboration with Supervisor, complete necessary written documentation as required by program funders. + Assist in utilizing effective marketing strategies in the promotion of programming efforts to include, but not limited to, print media, news media, social media, radio, and multi-media efforts. + Provide information as requested to assist with preparation of reports, impact statements, and success stories on program progress and accomplishments for funders, advisory committees, Board, and others as necessary. + Purchase appropriate program materials as needed with Supervisor approval. + On a regular basis transports self, also carrying program materials and resources to community-based settings. Able to drive and/or willing to learn to drive a box truck and cargo van as needed, no commercial license required. + Gather and distribute gleaned produce/resources. + Assist in allocating unit budget amounts and provide input to supervisor for budget preparation. + Collect evaluation data from program participants based on existing framework. + Collect applied research data based on existing framework. + Collect program needs assessment. Professional Improvement – 5% + In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes and Association priorities. + Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension and perform other duties as assigned. Health and Safety – Applied to all duties and functions + Support the Association to maintain a safe working environment. + Be familiar with and strive to follow any applicable federal, state, local regulations, Association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement and standard. + Act proactively to prevent accidents/injuries and communicate hazards to supervisors when identified.
