About the role:
The Global Procurement Category Manager for Civil Construction will play a pivotal role in enhancing Diageo’s global CAPEX procurement strategy, contributing to a cohesive and leading strategy for managing approximately $400 million in annual spend across our civil construction projects. This role will encompass the following responsibilities:
Strategic Review and Improvement: Evaluate current procurement processes and ways of working (WoW) against best industry practices across key markets, seeking opportunities for optimization and growth. . Includes developing and implementing procurement strategies that drive continuous improvement in cost, quality and delivery.
Collaboration and Needs Assessment: Partner closely with the technical team to develop a comprehensive needs' profile by assessing specifications, performance outcomes, and critical requirements.
Market Intelligence Integration: Engage with industry experts and professional service providers to leverage market intelligence effectively, ensuring informed decision-making in strategy development and program planning.
Contracting Best Practices: Maintain a current understanding of industry-leading contracting practices across primary geographies, developing a suite of contract frameworks and master schedule templates for immediate application as projects commence.
Leadership and Commercial Expertise: Provide leadership and commercial foresight throughout the sourcing, tendering, negotiation, and contracting processes to drive value and efficiency. Ensures compliance to company policies.
Role Responsibilities:
Education: 4 year Bachelor's degree or equivalent, membership in a professional body (e.g., CIPS) is preferred.
Experience: Experience in Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) procurement within the civil construction or engineering sectors. Ideally 5 years.
Industry Knowledge: Background in construction or engineering, with a demonstrated understanding of industry principles and practices.
Analytical Skills: Strong analytical abilities and financialy savvy, with a comprehensive understanding of financial goals and value drivers relevant to Civil Construction CAPEX.
Insight Generation: Track record of generating insights to influence decision-making and a strong commercial mentality.
Technical Proficiency: Technically literate with a record of successful system utilization.
Communication Skills: Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills, coupled with robust interpersonal capabilities.
Performance Orientation: A demonstrated history of consistent performance and delivery against objectives.

Specific Accountabilities:
Strategy Development: Develop and refine procurement strategies for Civil Construction projects, integrating market insights and best in class practices to improve cost-effectiveness and efficiency.
Sourcing Excellence: Lead sourcing initiatives for CAPEX projects, including supplier selection, negotiation, and contract management, to secure favorable terms and drive quality outcomes. Including but not limited to:
Develop and implement procurement strategies for civil engineering projects.
Identify and evaluate potential suppliers to ensure they meet company standards for quality, cost-effectiveness, and reliability.
Risk Management: Identify, assess, and mitigate procurement-related risks within civil construction projects, ensuring compliance with regulatory and company standards.
Supplier Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers, facilitating continuous improvement, performance evaluations, and collaborative opportunities.
Market Intelligence Utilization: Leverage market intelligence to inform procurement decisions and strategy adjustments, ensuring Diageo remains competitive and informed within the industry. Ability to drive insights into outcomes.
Continuous Improvement: Champion a culture of continuous improvement within the procurement function, identifying process enhancements and innovations that drive efficiency and effectiveness.
Benchmarking Capability Development:
Benchmarking Framework Establishment: Be externally curious to design and implement a comprehensive benchmarking framework for the Civil Construction category, enabling comparison of procurement performance against industry standards and best in class practices.
Data Collection and Analysis: Collect and analyze relevant data from internal and external sources to identify performance gaps and areas for improvement.
Performance Evaluation: Regularly evaluate procurement activities against established benchmarks, providing actionable insights and recommendations for optimizing spend and enhancing operational efficiency.
Collaboration with Stakeholders: Engage with internal and external partners to gather insights and foster a collaborative approach to benchmarking efforts, ensuring that findings are effectively applied across the organization.
Reporting and Communication: Develop clear reporting mechanisms to communicate benchmarking results and performance insights to key partners, facilitating informed decision-making and strategic adjustments.
