Department Summary:
The State Department Work Program (P770) seeks an action oriented and forward-thinking Group Leader & program area lead who will be responsible for first line supervision of staff members and for strategic thought leadership of the Global CyberTech Solutions (GCS) program area within the organization.
Role & Responsibilities:
The Group Leader will focus upon staff development, coaching, mentoring, and serve as a member of P770’s leadership team. The Group Leader will engage in work program development at the US Department of State and other related sponsors; work with the Department Manager on development and execution of department strategy; manage strategic partnerships with other appropriate organizations within MITRE; hiring for the group; and be P770’s GCS program area thought leader.
To be considered, a candidate must have a DoD Secret clearance, experience with international cyber-capacity building or other State Department programs, recent US Department of State work experience, and a demonstrated ability to develop, mentor, evaluate, and guide staff.
Key Responsibilities:
Serve as a direct supervisor for assigned staff. Conduct regular technical development conversations; identify appropriate work opportunities; mentor and advocate for staff; facilitate routine administrative actions; provide recognition, guidance, and advice; and assess staff.Communicate on a regular basis with work leaders on group member performance in order to provide constructive feedback and support career development. Leverage these work leader relationships to match projects with staff competencies and identify stretch assignments to develop new skills.Support P770 operational functions as requested by the Department Manager.Foster effective and timely communication and collaboration in your staff members.Proactively seek opportunities for staff members to collaborate and communicate across the company.Assist or lead in recruitment and securing staff for the capability area and support staffing them on MITRE projects and task orders.Assist the Department Manager in establishing and executing upon a department strategy.Engage in work program development with other Center for Securing the Homeland (CSH) divisions, engage and advise P770 & CSH project leaders, and lead the maturation of MITRE’s cyber capacity building & GCS capability.Basic Qualifications:
Typically requires a minimum of 10 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 8 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 5 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.2+ years of leadership experience.Must have an active Secret-level security clearanceCurrent knowledge and demonstrated experience with the Department of State including experience in some of the technical areas of the work program which includes cybersecurity, IT modernization, program management, and IT acquisitionDemonstrated ability to lead and supervise staffStrong desire to work with people and grow the technical areas of the DepartmentStrong verbal and written communications skills and excellent interpersonal skillsExperience working with US Department of State sponsorsThis position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-sitePreferred Qualifications:
