About the Function
Our Supply Chain and Manufacturing team are problem-solvers, sourcing, producing, and delivering our much-loved brands to delight customers around the globe. Over half of Diageo’s 30,000+ people work in Supply Chain and Manufacturing. Purpose of the Role
To lead the regulatory and product compliance function for Diageo's portfolio of brands. This role involves developing and executing regulatory strategies, identifying emerging legislation, ensuring compliance with international regulations (food, alcohol and packaging) and providing strategic leadership to support product innovation and market expansion.
Key Responsibilities
Regulatory Strategy Development:
Develop and implement comprehensive global regulatory strategies to support product development, registration, and market access.
Provide strategic guidance on regulatory matters to senior management and cross-functional teams.
Compliance Management:
Ensure all Diageo beverage products comply with relevant international regulations, standards, and guidelines
Monitor changes in global alcohol, food and packaging regulations and assess their impact on the company's products.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulatory requirements in key market through codified processes
Facilitate best practice, standardisation and codification of product compliance processes
Provide technical support to market regulatory teams
Deliver on robust data management to enable compliance, drive insights and report on performance against KPI’s
Leadership & Team Development:
Lead a team of regulatory professionals, providing mentorship, guidance, and performance management.
Foster a culture of continuous improvement within the regulatory team.
External Relations & Advocacy:
Liaise with regulatory authorities, industry associations, external consultants, and other stakeholders as needed.
Represent Diageo in industry forums and contribute to shaping industry standards.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Work closely with CR, R&D, Food Safety & Quality, Assurance, Marketing, Legal, Supply Chain Categories and other departments / functions to ensure regulatory requirements are met throughout the product lifecycle.
Provide regulatory input during product development stages to ensure compliance from inception to launch.
Digital Transformation:
Continue to explore opportunities for digital enhancements and transformation
Key Accountabilities:
Guide decisions & protect our brands. Strong leadership required to set context, create focus, provide external perspective to drive change. Create and deliver the Strategy for Regulatory.
Lead the development of a highly specialised team of SME’s to ensure that there is a sustainable Regulatory function with a reputation for outstanding execution and leadership
Ensure alignment with key business partners across Diageo markets and functions (ie Innovation, Legal, CR, Excise Tax, and Trade Compliance) to assess and agree possibilities and opportunities to enable Diageo to navigate, create and deliver new Innovation products capable of global scale.
Identify changes in regulations, assess risk and opportunities and advise business on impact and actions needed.
Scans for and mitigates Regulatory risks.
Build trust and respect for Diageo through representation at external forums such as trade associations or regulators. Leverage these relationships to drive and maintain our competitive advantage.
Capabilities, Skills & Experience Required
Extensive regulatory experience in commercial technical support function in the food or alcoholic beverage industry.
Technical degree qualified (Food Science/Science)
Masters in Food Law would be preferable
Proven track record of managing a functional team of specialists in a regional, international or global environment. Self-starter with an ability to work independently and with remote teams.
Strong commercial acumen, Business Case development and influencing skills. Able to effectively communicate at all levels, both verbal and written, with internal stakeholders, external government agencies and 3rd Party vendors and customers.
Ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, proficient in beverage alcohol laws and procedures, documentation requirements, labelling laws, and have in depth understanding in manufacturing processes
