The Department of Emergency Medicine, Joe R. & Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine at UT Health San Antonio is accepting applications for our faculty position Global Health Fellowship. Optimal candidates will have completed an emergency medicine residency and must be BC/BE in Emergency Medicine

Overview

The UT Health San Antonio Global Health Fellowship equips emergency physicians to become leaders in global health.  Fellows gain experience in a broad range of clinical, research, teaching, and administrative skills in tropical medicine, refugee health, international public health, humanitarian aid, and cross-cultural collaboration. The fellowship is designed for emergency physicians preparing for a career in academic emergency medicine, international medical leadership, global health, or humanitarian aid.

Structure

The fellowship begins July 1 and lasts one year. Fellows have the option of completing the Combined Ultrasound Global Health fellowship, lasting 18 months. We have also had Fellows complete an MPH in a two-year program. Fellows divide their time between international field work, educational training, projects and research, and clinical work in the Emergency Department. The curriculum is tailored to fellows’ individual interests and is divided into five areas outlined below: (1) Global Health Curriculum, (2) International Field Work, (3) Refugee Health, (4) Research, (5) Clinical Medicine, and (6) Humanitarian Aid and Disaster Response. 

Location

University Hospital is the county hospital, academic center, and quaternary care hospital serving all residents of Bexar Country and a 22- country region of South Texas.  The hospital is a designated Level 1 Adult and Pediatric Trauma Center, Comprehensive Stroke Center, STEMI center, and Pediatric Burn Center. In partnership with UT Health San Antonio, the practice plan of The University of Texas Health Science Center, it is consistently recognized as a leader in advanced treatment options, new technologies and clinical research. A state of the art 93,000 square ft. Emergency Department with 80 beds opened in early 2014.
