The Global IT Network Architect (SRE) is part of the Generac Global IT Cloud Operations team, responsible for the design architecture, implementation and delivery of full mesh network connectivity and services for the global enterprise. This role encompasses both Private Cloud (premise) and Public Cloud (hyperscaler) assets and infrastructure – configuring, installing, and supporting hardware platforms and software-based solutions across all deployed locations. The candidate successful in this role will have a wide range and multitude of skills, encompassing route/switch, wireless architecture and troubleshooting, software defined networking, SD-WAN, firewall, policy-based network access controls and also a strong understanding of segmentation and security approaches. A strong knowledge of monitoring platforms and the ability to bring visibility to all facets of network operations to better optimize services is also a must. The Global IT Network Architect (SRE) will work with other architect level colleagues to design and build future state hybrid infrastructure architectures that will support the growing needs for connectivity between our service offices, plants, warehouses, and subsidiary organizations. The candidate who fills this role will level up our capabilities, build solutions for redundancy and performance, and refine our technical standards in accordance with the industry’s best practices.
Major Responsibilities
Enterprise-Wide Architecture: Research emerging networking technologies and recommend their adoption when appropriate. Develop future state roadmaps and designs supporting a scalable vision for the network technology stack. Design and implement high-level, globally scalable, network architectures, ensuring alignment with business and security requirements. Evaluate current network systems and recommend upgrades or improvements. Oversee the installation, configuration, and management of network hardware, such as routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers.
Wireless Network Architecture & Design: Design and implement scalable, high-performance wireless network solutions for enterprise environments. Conduct RF planning, site surveys, and coverage analysis to optimize wireless deployments. Develop and maintain enterprise wireless standards, policies, and best practices. Evaluate and recommend wireless technologies, including Wi-Fi 6/6E, private 5G, and IoT connectivity.
Security Mindset and Approach: Develop and enforce network policies, procedures, and security protocols. Ensure network security by implementing firewalls, network access controls, and related technologies in accordance with our security strategies.
Support and Troubleshooting: Provide escalation support for network related technologies, working with vendors and internal teams as needed to collaborate appropriately and speed time to resolution of open issues.
Deployment and Configuration: Assist in the deployment and configuration of network services, and provide the logistics leadership necessary to execute large scale projects. Ensure that network resources are properly configured for redundancy, high availability and survivability.
Documentation: Maintain detailed documentation of network infrastructure, configurations, and processes. Update documentation as changes occur and ensure accuracy. Lead others in the network discipline to do the same.
Collaboration, Communication: Represent the team’s technology roadmap and vision with IT leadership. Work with IT, development, M&A, and business teams to understand their needs and provide solutions. Support business growth, facility expansion, and acquisition or divestiture projects by providing technical expertise and guidance. Work cross functionally to drive change and improve relationships with others.
Continuous Improvement: Stay current with the latest technologies and industry trends. Identify and recommend improvements to our practices and strategies.
Performance Monitoring: Establish metrics and alerting to ensure reliable service delivery of Public, Private and Hybrid network infrastructure solutions. Analyze performance data, provide tooling to visualize key aspects of the infrastructure, drive improvements based on agreed upon KPIs.
Minimum Job Requirements
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience.
Work Experience
7+ years of experience in network architecture or engineering.
10+ years of network administration.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
Sound understanding of Enterprise Architecture principles and methodologies, experience in manufacturing environment.
Strong knowledge of networking protocols (TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, etc.). Strong technical acumen and design sensibilities, ability to “design on the fly” and think quickly to ideate solutions to complex problems.
Wireless architecture and design, experience with Cisco, Juniper, or Aruba networks hardware and devices. Ability to interpret and design network security approaches. Familiarity with cloud networking. Experience with colocation layer-2 stretch networks, SD-WAN and related technology stacks. Proficiency with console, cli, data manipulation, and scripting.
Technical aptitude, and a thirst for learning and development. Problem solving ability and experience, understanding of network architecture best practices. Strong ability to orchestrate enterprise-wide management of complex platforms and systems (including patching, monitoring, ensuring up-time). Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, and a comfort level with communication between teams and leadership alike.

Education
Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience.
Certification / License
HPE Aruba Networks Professional (SD-WAN) and/or HPE Aruba Networks Architect (Data Center)
Juniper Networks, Enterprise Routing Switching (JNCIP-ENT) and/or Juniper Networks, Data Center Professional, (JNCIP-DC)
Cisco Certified Network Professional Enterprise (CCNP) or Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert Enterprise Infrastructure (CCIE).
AWS Certified Advanced Networking and/or Microsoft Certified: Azure Network Engineer Associate (AZ-700)
CompTIA Network+ or Security+
Work Experience
Experience with cloud networking.
