Global Product Sustainability Lead

Location: This role can be located near any US Emerson office.


IN THIS ROLE, YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES WILL BE:

Help to drive the adoption of sustainable product design strategies throughout the organization. Support product development teams in implementing technical measures to reduce emissions and drive product circularity. Work with the product environmental compliance team to integrate regulatory considerations into sustainable product design strategy and guidelines. Drive improvement projects that can serve as standard process examples. Continue to improve and enhance Emerson’s sustainable new product design guidelines. Keep abreast of external sustainable design trends and actively participate in external industry forums. Facilitate and drive collaborations with external partners such as universities for relevant research and innovation projects.


PRODUCT SUSTAINABILITY REPORTING 

Supervise the activities of the central team conducting product carbon footprint analyses. Provide technical expertise to teams within the business and collaborate with them in research and specific projects during execution. Help lead and expand Emerson's global product carbon footprint program by: Continuing to improve internal methodologies and external communication collateral in alignment with external best practices and regulatory requirements. Streamlining the process to minimize the duration of projects, while ensuring a high-quality deliverable. Working with the IT team to develop a longer-term data architecture plan to scale the product carbon footprint program globally. Supporting the vendor selection process for Emerson’s longer-term global LCA / product carbon footprint program. Driving the adoption of product carbon footprint analyses across Emerson’s major product lines globally. Develop external resource relationships which may be valuable to Emerson future product development activities Collaborate with the Scope 3 reporting team, to improve data quality and future forecasting, based on information collected and produced through individual product carbon footprints. Train and support sales and marketing teams to ensure effective communication of results to external collaborators. Participate with peer groups and working groups to stay up to date with the latest trends to developing shared rules on product carbon footprint data sharing.


SUPPLY CHAIN SUPPORT

Collaborate with Emerson's Responsible Sourcing team to achieve Scope 3 upstream emissions reductions through effective product design practices. Collaborate with the Responsible Sourcing team to improve primary data collection practices from suppliers to improve the precision and granularity of Scope 3 upstream emissions. Assist in developing decarbonization scenario analyses and creating roadmaps for key material commodities. Engage with supply chain teams to promote the adoption of sustainable procurement and transportation strategies early in the product development stages.

FOR THIS ROLE, YOU WILL NEED:

Bachelor's degree in engineering, environmental science, physics, mathematics, materials science or a similar field. Relevant years of work experience in product design, or product management commensurate with the level of the position. Experience in a leadership or managerial role. Experience with Life Cycle Assessment methodologies and tools. Consistent track record in the design and development of new products. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey sophisticated sustainability topics in a clear and engaging manner. Strong project management skills, with the ability to lead multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously. Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship now and in the future.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS THAT SET YOU APART:

5+ years of work experience in product design, or product management. Ideally, your work experience would have been related to sustainable product design. Knowledge of current trends, standard processes, and regulations in sustainable product design. Critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, to influence and encourage global teams. Collaborative working style in a global and diverse team-oriented environment. Creativity and innovation in developing engagement strategies with teams around the world. Analytical skills to measure and report on communication effectiveness. Ability to adapt to changing priorities in a fast paced environment. Working experience in the industrial automation and technology sector or similar.

Our compensation philosophy is simple: we pay a competitive base salary, within the local market in which we operate, and reward performance during our annual merit review process. The salary range for this role is $100,000 - $142,000 USD annually, commensurate with the skills, talent, capabilities, and experience each candidate brings to a role.
