World Vision is one of the world’s largest INGOs, with over 33,000 staff operating in nearly 100 countries. The organization delivers humanitarian aid to populations in some of the most challenging and complex environments. The Security, Safety & Resilience (SSR) group combines the people risk and resilience functions of staff care, safety, security, organizational resilience, fleet management and employee relations/staff conduct into a single forward-looking business unit. SSR has a key focus on ensuring that people are at the center of risk and resilience practice; while also creating agile, innovative and dynamic ‘end to end’ security, safety and resilience solutions across the organization.
On an annual basis around 4,000 staff in World Vision’s global workforce are required to travel domestically or internationally to enable the organization to reach the world’s most vulnerable children. Travel is often a ‘mission critical’ activity to ensure we can quickly deploy the right resources to emerging humanitarian emergencies and ensure ongoing operations, often requiring staff to travel to high-risk dynamic locations. To protect our travelling population, World Vision operates an integrated travel management framework that includes general travel management, insurance, staff benefits, travel risk management and external providers. The safety and wellbeing of staff traveling on behalf of World Vison is of upmost importance to the organization.
Job Purpose
Reporting to the Senior Director Security, the Travel Risk Manager is a global role providing strategic thought leadership in developing World Vision’s collective travel risk capability by using accepted risk and crisis management approaches in assessing potential travel risks, communicating potential risks to the travelling population, developing appropriate mitigations and leading the response to adverse travel events with operational security staff, key stakeholders and external providers.
The Travel Risk Manager is a key leadership role within the wider travel group, jointly leading a $15-20m Programme with the Travel Manager to ensure the development and delivery of seamless delivery of travel solutions across the organization. The incumbent is expected to collaborate with a wide global stakeholder group to ensure that World Vision’s travel risk management structure meets organizational requirements and is aligned with current industry practice and the ISO:31030 guidelines.
Scope / Distribution Of Responsibilities
15% - Strategy Development
Drive continuous improvement, innovation and change processes in the development of Travel Risk frameworks that encompass current industry Travel Risk, Crisis Management (CM) and Business Continuity Management (BCM) standards and practice. Develop and lead the organizational change process in relation to travel and travel risk management.Act as the global thought leader in proactively leading the development of holistic and coordinated travel risk management planning, policy, practice and operational delivery that increases the organizations travel risk capability and awareness. Function as the strategic link in connecting travel risk practitioners across all levels of the organization and external providers.Foster and maintain internal and external relationships to ensure continuous improvement and relevance and across all aspects of travel risk management.Work collaboratively with Global Insurance to develop and maintain requirements and SLAs for brokers and third-party emergency providers. Lead RFP processes as required.Lead the development of risk and general travel metrics that inform organizational policy, practice and travel decision making.10% - Risk Assessments and Analysis:
Use internal and external analytical capacity to develop and maintain comprehensive risk assessments and ongoing advisories for travel destinations, considering geopolitical, health, and environmental factors.Analyze data and intelligence sources to stay informed about emerging risks and trends and ensure the development of travel advisories as required.Lead the development of travel risk profiles for global and regional locations to guide decision-making around travel.Develop global risk metrics to understand organizational exposure and the effectiveness of mitigation measures.)15% - Incident & Crisis Management Readiness:
Develop and implement a global crisis management approach and planning methodology for possible adverse travel scenarios (security & medical evacuations) that utilize internal resources and third-party providers where appropriate.Ensure that coordination processes with relevant authorities, agencies, insurance providers and internal stakeholders during travel incidents are developed and understood by all stakeholders.Conduct periodic incident simulations and training for key stakeholders as required.Establish communication and escalation protocols for the entire global travel group.Lead the development of education programmer for the organizations travel population on managing risks and organizational response systems. Collaborate with Global Insurance to determine the appropriate coverage for assessed risks (particularly high-risk humanitarian responses).Identify and train focal points at Regional & Field level to respond to travel incidents when they occur (Regional and Field level P&C and Security staff).Act as a ‘change agent’ and champion in realigning organizational approaches to travel; influencing all layers of the organization.30% - Travel Incident Management:
Lead the organizational response in managing adverse global travel events that include security and medical evacuations of travelers.During crisis events provide direction and leadership for internal stakeholders and external providers to manage and resolve travel incidents in a timely and collaborative manner.Ensure all stakeholders follow agreed incident processes and plans as far as practicable.Coordinate with relevant authorities, agencies, insurance providers, internal stakeholders and 3rd party providers where appropriate to resolve the event. Conduct ‘after action’ review of serious incidents to identify areas for improvement.Coach leaders at Regional and Field level through events that may occur at the local level.5% - Policy and Assurance Development:
Collaborate with the wider travel group to ensure that all travel policies and standards have the appropriate risk language aligned with ISO:31030 standardsTravel risk policies and practice are communicated to the traveling population of the organization.Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the travel risk management program, developing effective information management and compliance systems.Coordinate with other relevant departments to ensure policy harmonization across the travel risk ecosystem.10% - Development & Capacity Building:
Working the wider travel group develop travel safety training and education programs that upskill travels and key stakeholders.Provide ongoing training to employees on risk awareness and preventive measures.Collaborate with external resources for specialized training when necessary.Ongoing training for key stakeholders and focal points.10% - Communication and Relationship Management:
Work with the wider travel group to develop effective communication mechanisms for travelers and relevant stakeholders.Actively develop ongoing relationships with external insurance and security partners. Develop and maintain a system that allows communication with travelers during an emergency that delivers timely alerts to travelers, allows travelers to escalate emergency information, and facilitates rapid assurance of traveler safety and whereabouts.5% - Travel Risk Technology Solutions:
Ensure organizational requirements for travel risk technology solutions (tracking & communication) are identified and regularly updated. Work with external providers to ensure full implementation of travel risk platforms across the organization. Stay updated on the latest travel safety technology trends.Ensure the efficient use of travel risk management platforms and facilitate integration with travel risk systems and processes.Work collaboratively across the organization to ensure WV Travel systems remain relevant to business requirements, are effective and utilized by users.REQUIRED PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, TRAINING, LICENSE, REGISTRATION, AND /OR CERTIFICATION:
A seasoned professional with 7-10yrs of proven senior experience in crisis management, intelligence analysis, travel risk management, security management, incident response, or related fields (Military, Law Enforcement, Emergency Services, INGO Security or Global Risk Services).Bachelors’ degree in a risk or crisis management-based discipline preferred, or extensive senior experience in risk and crisis management at a global level.Proven senior experience in operating in a travel, security or similar risk related role in a complex global organization combining theoretical knowledge with practical experience to ensure the safety and security of the organization's traveling personnel in challenging environments.Experience in developing a global strategy, implementing renewed areas of practice and managing serious global security/travel events. Demonstrated leadership and change management skills with the proven ability to influence at all levels of a complex global organization.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an ability to tolerate a high degree of ambiguity.Proven independent decision-making ability in dynamic and fluid emergency situations. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Masters in a risk or crisis management-based discipline is preferred.Has a good understanding of risk management principles, with some understanding of ISO:31030 standards.Ability to demonstrate a strategic mindset in which they have proactively identified risk and established comprehensive mitigation strategies.Some experience with project management and change management is preferred.Language Requirements:
Highly proficient in written and verbal communication in English. Spanish, French or other additional language will be an added advantage.Travel and/or Work Environment Requirement:
