Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) is a pervasive and serious respiratory infection for young children – 90% of infants will catch RSV in their first years of life and it’s a leading cause of hospitalization in all infants, with a majority of those hospitalized being born healthy and at term. The RSV Franchise works tirelessly to both raise awareness of RSV and work with health care systems and providers worldwide to implement the first RSV prevention (or immunization) for all infants, which Sanofi first launched in 2023. The team is also laying the groundwork for the future of RSV prevention with new vaccine candidates in development for at-risk populations (toddlers and older adults).
Purpose of the job:
The Global Vaccines Public Affairs Head for RSV must secure the Sanofi One Voice in front of the global institutions, policy-makers, interested party organizations, advocacy groups, and trade associations involved in Vaccines policies.
The Global Vaccines Public Affairs Head for RSV’s main remit involves the early warning and analysis of global policies that can have an impact on vaccine recommendation & procurement, vaccination practices and ultimately be the leader in shaping a global ecosystem able to support the access of our vaccines to the largest possible number of people on a sustainable manner.
In close collaboration and alignment with other functions, the GVPA RSV Head develops the External Engagement Strategy to prepare the Vaccine candidate future launches.
Main responsibilities
Map, build and manage close relationships and partnerships with global institutions involved in Vaccines policies for the RSV product portfolio. Stakeholders include UN organizations (like WHO), Disease coalitions, Healthcare providers associations, Patient groups or civil society organizations and Trade associations and any other relevant global stakeholder or influencer.
Interface with the global policy makers to ensure that the voice of Sanofi/ vaccines manufacturers’ is aired
Self-inform and assess with early warning of global policies or global initiatives that can have an impact on vaccine recommendation, procurement or practices.
Ensure cross functional approach to Stakeholder engagement strategies (Unified Voices SEP): Coordinate with all the functions involved and, taking into consideration the alliance linked to this vaccine candidate, the mapping and allocation of key stakeholders across functions (including but not limited to R&D, Medical, Market access, Communication), ensure overall consistency in messages to convey & in timeframe, share regularly across functions the feedbacks of external engagement in order to adjust messages and plan.
Is accountable, within the SEP, for developing and driving the implementation of vaccines specific PA strategies programs and initiatives at global level, including action plans with deliverables
Support GBT markets in building and executing their local PA strategies
Represent the Vaccine GBU in global Corporate Affairs Themes/Initiatives and support external engagement of Senior Executives (briefing, talking points,….) on topics related to their scope
About you
A leader with a strong track record across a variety of settings demonstrating the following:
Experience
Post-graduate degree, preferably Public Health, Political Sciences, Economics, or International Relations. Can also be MBA, MD, PhD,…. if the candidate has strong track record in policy making, market-shaping strategies or advocacy campaigns
Solid business experience of minimum 10 years in pharma industry, with an experience in external engagement, or in a governmental/public Health function
Experience in public affairs, market-shaping strategies, advocacy campaigns, dealing with Politicians, Agencies, trade and patient associations, supra national organizations etc….
Sensitive to Ethics and compliance rules
Knowledge of vaccine market dynamics, market access, or of how to drive a public health program
Skills:
Proven track record of effective leadership, including cross-functional leadership, of PA strategies and programs to support business objectives and build trust
Expertise in stakeholder engagement techniques and policymaking process.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both internally and externally
Proven analytic skills and ability to inform high-level policy dialogue
Deep understanding of pharmaceutical sector challenges to achieving Universal Health Care
Ability to influence in a proactive, objective, ethical and diplomatic manner
Proactive and result-focused work style with strong problem-solving capabilities
