Scope of Responsibility:
This position performs production within prescribed codes, and according to prescribed procedures, specifications, and drawings. Must complete Welder Training Program.
Essential Duties:

The pole assembly generally consists of a round tube or formed shaft, baseplate, hand hole, arm mounting simplex, tenon top, vangs, step lugs, ladder clips, and/or other small parts.Works in Large Pole department on individual fitter station to assemble pole assembly. Assist material handler in loading round tube or formed shaft on individual fitter station.Reads and interprets drawings to determine parts needed to assemble pole assembly. Locate and gather Storeroom Personnel staged parts needed for assembly from parts staging area. Frequently pushes, pulls, and lifts up to 50 pounds.Reads and interprets drawing to assure proper location of various small part attachments. Layout various locations on round tube or formed shaft based upon interpretation of drawings and specifications.Uses measuring tape, level, square, and angle finders to measure distances and angles. Adds, subtracts, multiplies, and divides feet, inches, fractions, and decimals. Uses table to convert fractions to decimals and decimals to fractions.Uses plasma torch and oxy-fuel torch to cut steel. Uses jigs made at Sabre/Texas for laying out vang slots and for cutting holes in shafts for inserting hand hole rims, arm mounting simplex, couplings, and other small parts. Wear protective goggles or welding hood to protect eyes from harmful rays.Moves around round tube or formed shaft as necessary to get into proper position to accurately measure and assemble components described above including standing on elevated platform when necessitated by the size of the shafts.Uses motorized grinders, motorized buffers, stone grinders, and drills to help assemble pole assembly according to prescribed specifications, codes and drawing. Wears protective face shield and safety glasses to protect eyes and face.Adjusts welding machine to achieve desired results within parameters of established welding procedures. Changes tips, ceramic cups, and electrodes in plasma torch as needed to achieve desired cutting results.Finish weld various products of the unit to keep the product moving through the large pole department in a timely manner. Reads and interprets weld symbols.Uses oxy-fuel torch to preheat parts prior to welding. Read codes and specifications to determine proper temperature and uses instruments provided to measure temperature.Uses chipping hammer, wire brush, motorized grinder, and motorized wire brush at various times to clean welded areas.Uses pneumatic drills and magnetic drills to drill and ream various sizes holes in poles as required by the drawing.Wears protective equipment, including safety glasses, insulated welding gloves, welding cap, leather sleeves, and/or cape, and welding hood for protection against hot metal, arc rays, grinding debris, and other potentially.Performs visual inspecting and identifies material discrepancies to assure welds have been completed satisfactorily in compliance with applicable drawings and specifications. Uses a weld gauge to measure weld size.When called for by the drawings and specifications, must produce full-penetration welds as defined by American Welding Society code. Uses air-arc gouger to remove weld defects, and rewelds to meet specifications.Uses overhead crane to load finished poles into bolsters for transportation out of the pole assembly area.Welds other products in other areas, using either Flux-Cored Arc Welding or Gas Metal Arc Welding process.Assist and instructs other welders and fitters when needed to overcome deficiencies in quality and/or productivity.Regular and on-time attendance.Work in your shift as scheduled.Must work well with others.Additional duties as assigned.Position Requirements:
High School diploma or GED equivalent preferredMust have knowledge of basic shop mathematics, addition, subtraction, fractions, multiplication and decimals.Proficiency in reading complex prints and specifications.Must know how to properly use a weld gauge.Read and write.Physical Requirement
Must be able to stand 100% of scheduled shift. Lifting, pushing, prying, and dragging heavy materials.Must be capable of bending, stooping, crawling under or over and occasional climbing of stairs/ladders heights up to 6 or 7 feet.Abnormal level of noise due to grinding, chipping, hammering requires hearing protection (ear plugs) be worn at all times.Must possess adequate dexterity and stamina to sustain expected production effectively.Must be able to work in fast-paced work environmentMust be able to lift up to 50 pounds.Must be able to perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving entire body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, bending, twisting and handling of materials.Position requires manual dexterity, arm-hand steadiness and a safety-minded individual.Must be able to work in an open environment exposed to extreme temperatures.At Sabre Industries, we invest in your future with a competitive benefits program.
