Golf Maintenance Superintendent JOB OVERVIEW: The Golf Course Superintendent directs and participates in the maintenance of the golf course tees, greens, fairways and cart paths; supervises the maintenance and repair of motorized and other mechanical equipment; and does related work as required. Standard Specifications: Requirements are representative of minimum levels of knowledge, skills and/or abilities. To perform this job successfully, the incumbent will possess the abilities or aptitudes to perform each duty proficiently. QUALIFICATIONS: Essential: + High school diploma or equivalent. + Turf degree. + Valid driver’s license. + Current state certification or licensing as a pesticide applicator. + One to Two years experience as an Assistant Superintendent Required. + Skills in recruiting, supervising, training, monitoring, evaluating and motivating personnel. + Advanced computer skills required for financial reporting and payroll management. SKILLS: Essential: + Requires working knowledge of the maintenance of golf course tees, greens, and fairways. The seeding and maintenance practices for golf course turf; the planting, cultivating, pruning, and caring for plants, shrubs, and trees; the characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers and pesticides. Pest control methods and materials, drainage control methods, and irrigation system control, including but not limited to wells, pumps, controllers, and maintenance. + Requires ability to schedule and supervise maintenance work to achieve the most efficient utilization of workers and equipment. Prepare clear and concise reports, and to maintain effective employee and public relations. + Ability to lift at least 50 pounds on a regular basis. + Ability to work outdoors for long periods of time, sometimes in inclement weather. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: + Plans and supervises the maintenance of greens, tees, fairways, clubhouse grounds, grooming snow trails, expansive snow removal projects and landscape areas. + Schedules work and supervises the Associates and the use of equipment. + Instructs equipment operators on the operation and care of mowing, snow removal and other equipment. + Supervises and participates in pesticide/fertilizer applications. Operates and calibrates pesticide/fertilizer application equipment. + Supervises and participates in the operation and maintenance of pumps, and in the maintenance of irrigation and drainage systems + Assists in personnel management and evaluation, Associate safety, personnel discipline and may also modify the daily work schedule based on professional interpretation. + Oversees the completion of work assignments by crew and assists with field decisions regarding job procedures, work standards and equipment use and work methods. + Assists in overseeing club grounds including environmentally sensitive areas in and around the golf course. + Supervises special projects and labor crews. + Opens the maintenance facility and runs operations in the absence of Superintendent and Assistant. SECONDARY JOB FUNCTIONS: + Maintains effective communication and cooperation with all other departments. + Maintains positive interactions with club members and guests, providing a high level of customer service. + Performs any and all duties as assigned by the Golf Course Superintendent or other members of the senior management team, as deemed appropriate. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Must be able to exert well-paced ability to reach different outlets and other departments of the Resort on a timely basis. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. Requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening and hearing ability and visual acuity.
