Collegiate Sports About Goucher College
Goucher College is an innovative private, liberal arts college located in Towson, Maryland, just outside of Baltimore. Founded in 1885, Goucher is known for its commitment to academics, a strong focus on global education, and a vibrant campus community. The College serves around 2,000 undergraduate and graduate students and offers 35 academic majors for its students to choose from. There are more than 30 clubs for students to be involved in, as well as a robust study abroad program that offers opportunities in over 40 countries. Goucher’s study abroad requirement gives its students a unique opportunity to make a valuable connection between the classroom and real-world experiences.
Made up of four parts, the “Goucher Edge” is the College’s distinctive undergraduate experience that provides every student with an Edge – The Commons, Academic Major, Global Experience, and Internship Accelerator. The Commons is an innovative core curriculum focused on solving complex problems, including social and environmental injustices. Academic Major is each student’s major, chosen from Goucher College’s offering of 30+ programs, each with a capstone experience or project. Global Experience is every student’s participation in study abroad as part of an integrated global education. Finally, the Internship Accelerator is a four-year sequence of real-world workplace experiences that helps students decide what they want to do after graduation and cultivate the knowledge, skills, and networks needed to get there.
President Kent Devereaux became the 12th president in July 2019. During his time, President Devereaux has been instrumental in developing Goucher’s five-year strategic plan, “Cultivating Global Changemakers”. Beginning in 2021, the plan includes key elements such as enhancing student success, expanding global education, emphasizing inclusivity, and ensuring a solid financial future through continued diversification. The final two years of the plan will be known as “Goucher Forward” and will have an enhanced focus on strengthening three essential aspects of the college: enrollment, student success, and financial stability. President Devereaux also oversaw the development of a new Campus Master Plan which lays out a vision for development on Goucher’s 287-acre campus over the next 15 years, with a focus around a more student-centered, accessible, and sustainable future. Goucher continues to be a leading institution for global education and social mobility, and under President Devereaux’s leadership, the College became a founding member of the Liberal Arts College Racial Equity Leadership Alliance, representing the school’s commitment to diversity and inclusivity.
