Job Description Summary:

The Government Accounting and Compliance Principal will provide subject matter expertise in areas of cost accounting, DFARS business system compliance, as well as ensuring Draper’s financial policies, procedures, and internal controls comply with laws, regulations, and internal policies and procedures.

This is a crucial role for optimizing efficiency and safeguarding against legal and regulatory risks related to charging practices as well as ensuring ethical standards and compliant business operations.

Job Description:

Duties/Responsibilities

Develops new and updates existing internal charging policies in line with how the business evolves in alignment with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and Draper’s established Cost Accounting Standards Disclosure Statement

Raises to leadership policy compliance gaps, or internal control issues, and recommend/assist in the implementation of proposed solutions

Supports Draper leadership by compiling and analyzing data related to charging practices and provides insights/recommendations to support strategic decision making

Conducts regular surveillance/compliance reviews and selected audits to ensure adherence to expense policies and budgetary guidelines

Generates regular reports for management highlighting trends, discrepancies, and areas for improvement

Remains informed about relevant laws, company policies, and industry best practices

Provide government accounting expertise in support of preparation and submission of require financial reports, claims, and proposals

Support and maintain CASB Disclosure Statement

Develops, coordinates, and delivers training to educate employees on compliance requirements

Serve as a point of contact for DCMA cost monitor requests for information

Oversee quarterly reporting of direct and indirect labor rates

Provide meaningful interpretation of rate impacts on financial results

Monitor, assess, and perform compliance reviews on classification of projects

Maintain audit findings tracker and ensure remediation activities are tracked and completed (when applicable)

Supports financial initiatives/special projects

Perform all other related duties as assigned


Skills/Abilities

Strong analytical skills and proficiency in data analysis

Strong oral and written communication skills necessary, as is ability to cultivate critical inter- and intra-departmental working relationships, foster an environment of cooperation and trust and effectively meet deadlines while providing a high level of customer service

Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and compliance

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

Knowledge of database structures for data extraction from Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) platforms; advanced Excel skills needed

Knowledge of Government regulations preferred (FAR, DFARS, CAS, OMB)’

Ability to be proactive and forward thinking in a fast- paced environment


Education
Requires Bachelor’s Degree (B.A./B.S.) or equivalent in Business, Finance, or a related field

Experience
5 - 10 years of defense contracting experience, including at least 3 years of proven experience in charging practice management
