Summary
The Georgia Department of Agriculture’s Policy Division is seeking qualified candidates for its open Government Relations Manager position.
This is an entry-level position. Applicants should be excited to gain experience working in federal or state political or policy positions and be curious, self-motivated, and independent learners.
Preferred Qualifications
· Knowledge of the legislative process, General Assembly, and Department of Agriculture is strongly preferred, as is experience working at the State Capitol in a policy-related role and/or experience working in Georgia politics.
· A four-year undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university is required.
· 2-3 years of Microsoft Office Suites experience.
· Professional relationships with Government officials.
· Undergraduate knowledge of Political Science.
· Excellent phone etiquette and written communication skills.
Duties
The duties of a government relations manager will include, but are not limited to:
· Tracking relevant legislation to the Department.
· Attending and taking notes on committee meetings relevant to the Department.
· Managing special events (education seminar days for government officials, tours of Department facilities for legislators, public hearings for and regulations review).
· Coordinating with state and federal officials’ offices.
· Coordinating meetings for the Director.
· Compiling data and developing policy for emerging regulatory responsibility and development of regulatory rules.
· Assisting in the preparation of policy memos, legislative summaries, and newsletters.
· Interacting with GDA’s numerous division directors and staff both during and after the legislative session.
· Monitoring and responding to constituent inquiries directed to our policy email account.
Other tasks as assigned to support the Director, Deputy Director, Chief of Staff, and Commissioner.
