About the Indiana State Department of Agriculture (ISDA): The Indiana State Department of Agriculture (ISDA) was established as a separate state agency by the Legislature in 2005. Administratively, ISDA reports to the Lt. Governor, who also serves as Indiana’s Secretary of Agriculture and Rural Development. Major responsibilities include advocacy for Indiana agriculture at the local, state, and federal levels, managing soil conservation programs, promoting economic development and agricultural innovation, serving as a regulatory ombudsman for agricultural businesses, and licensing grain firms throughout the state. Role Overview: The Governor’s Summer Internship Program (GSI) is designed to give college students real-world, hands-on experience in their desired field of study to enhance marketability upon graduation. Participation in the program will offer students a multitude of experiences including networking with state employees, resume-building and soft skills workshops, agency head panels, and much more. Incumbent serves as project management and support to the staff of the Indiana State Department of Agriculture (ISDA) and the Indiana Grown programs. The incumbent will work on projects with the Indiana Grown team and other staff of ISDA as necessary. Salary Statement: The hourly rate for this position is $16.24 for those who do not hold a bachelor’s degree & $17.24 for those who hold a bachelor’s degree or higher by the time the internship starts. A Day in the Life: The essential functions of this role are as follows: + Updating the Indiana Grown website to better reflect our membership and their products. This may include uploading photos and blog content for members. + Preparation work for Indiana State Fair activities and pop-up markets. + Contact existing members to verify their current interest in retail and distribution. + Create product-specific lists of Indiana Grown members which can be easily updated and referenced. + Join the Indiana Grown team in staffing the exhibit at the State Fair. + Create Indiana Grown Marketing materials and Seasonal educational materials. + Create Indiana Grown content and schedule social media posts. + Work collaboratively with the Indiana Grown Marketing and Operations Specialist. What You'll Need for Success: + Must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate with an accredited post-secondary institution and have completed at least one (1) year of undergraduate education + Ability to maintain a valid driver’s license + Academic work in related field + Excellent oral and written communication skills + Ability to analyze data sets related to discipline + Ability to build relationships, establish credibility, and influence leaders at all levels + Ability to conduct well-informed research + Ability to solve complex, critical problems + Ability to review and make recommendations on proposed changes to relevant policies and procedures + Ability to maintain confidentiality + Knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite, Outlook, and Canva.
