About the Indiana Indiana Office of Energy Development:
The Indiana Office of Energy Development (OED) was established to shepherd the state’s energy plan. OED focuses on the development and implementation of comprehensive energy planning for the state that utilizes all of Indiana’s energy resources and supports a strong, dynamic, and growing economy. OED strives to be a national leader in the creation of innovative policy solutions and programs for affordable, reliable energy.
Role Overview:
The Governor’s Summer Internship Program (GSI) is designed to give college students real-world, hands-on experience in their desired field of study to enhance marketability upon graduation. Participation in the program will offer students a multitude of experiences including networking with state employees, resume-building and soft skills workshops, agency head panels, and much more.
The Indiana Office of Energy Development is seeking a Communications and Special Projects Intern to join our Office in the summer of 2025. The intern will support a variety of external and internal communication initiatives and projects. The intern will collaborate across the agency to develop content and communication strategies for a host of energy policy initiatives and grant programs.
The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, have experience and skills in graphic design, have proficiency with social media platforms, be a self-starter, and possess an innovative mindset with an eagerness to work alongside a team.
Salary Statement:
The hourly rate for this position is $16.24 for those who do not hold a bachelor’s degree & $17.24 for those who hold a bachelor’s degree or higher by the time the internship starts.
A Day in the Life:
As a Communications and Special Projects Intern for the Indiana Office of Energy Development, you'll gain valuable hands-on experience with:
+ Designing graphics, brochures, and/or flyers to promote various OED programs/initiatives;
+ Creating and editing content for social media platforms;
+ Developing and designing agency branding templates;
+ Providing communications support for special events, such as developing presentations and talking points, coordinating webinars, and taking photos for energy tours;
+ Answering public inquiries related to agency issues and policies;
+ Finding new, unique ways to promote OED and advocate for Indiana energy;
+ Conducting research applicable to effective public relations and marketing strategies;
+ Other duties and projects as assigned.
What You'll Need for Success:
+ Must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate with an accredited post-secondary institution and have completed at least one (1) year of undergraduate education.
+ Academic work in related field
+ Excellent oral and written communication skills
+ Ability to analyze data sets related to discipline
+ Ability to build relationships, establish credibility, and influence leaders at all levels
+ Ability to conduct well-informed research
+ Ability to solve complex, critical problems
+ Ability to review and make recommendations on proposed changes to relevant policies and procedures
+ Ability to maintain confidentiality

This seasonal position does not offer benefits and is limited to 180 working days in an eleven (11) month continuous period
