POSITION SUMMARY:
The Nurse Practitioner, under the direction of the Medical Director or Physician or Clinic Manager based on the site for which services are performed, is responsible for providing professional healthcare services within the scope of practice to patients and providing such other healthcare services patients may require including, but not limited to, routine and diagnostic medical examination and treatment, on-call coverage and consultation at our Sault Tribal Health Clinics. The position is responsible for rendering services to a broad-based patient base within the scope of services for which they are licensed. The position shall be assigned one or more primary service sites, as deemed in the best interests of the Sault Tribe Health Program. The position is responsible for rendering patient care in accordance with generally accepted standards of medical/nursing practice applicable to current or future specialty; be in and maintain compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local governmental laws and accrediting agencies, applicable standards established from time to time by a third-party payer, conduct him/herself in accordance with philosophy and mission of the Tribe and the Sault Tribe Health Program. The position is also responsible for providing professional medical services and shall undertake clinical supervisor duties as requested by the Medical Director and Clinic Manager and shall include the duties, but are not limited to, the supervision of RN or other nursing personnel responsible for the provision or assisting in the provision of medical services.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (includes, but is not limited to, the following)
Provides routine and diagnostic medical examinations and treatments. Provides a wide range of medical and health services including assessment of patients, diagnosis, and treatments, evaluating the effectiveness of care, and changing or modifying treatment. Maintains competency and renders broad-based care within their scope of services and generally accepted standards of care. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Position light with the lifting of 20 pounds and frequent lifting/carrying of 10 pounds. Physical factors include constant standing, and walking, use of hearing, smell, near/midrange/far vision, depth perception, color/field of vision and typing; frequent sitting and occasional carrying/lifting, pushing/pulling, stooping, reaching, manual handling, and bending. Working conditions include occasional exposure to weather, extreme cold, and wet/humidity. Potential hazards include constant infectious exposure, patient/client volatile patients, needles/syringes, computer use, equipment/medical equipment use, and occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts and electric shock and chemicals and hazards normally associated with the provision of health care services. Provider shall follow current CDC guidelines regarding infection control. Personal Protection Equipment is required and must follow universal cautions. Personal Protection Equipment provided by the employer.
REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Master of Science in Nursing Degree required.
Experience: One year of experience providing primary medical care treating both acute and chronic conditions preferred.
Certification: Provider must be duly licensed to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Michigan. Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Certification is required. Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification (ACLS) is preferred. Certifications by recognized Boards in specialties in which he/she represents him/herself or is otherwise able to provide satisfactory evidence to the Tribe that he/she has sufficient experience in providing primary medical care within the scope of practice. Provider shall warrant that his/her license to practice in any state has never been suspended or revoked; that he/she has never been reprimanded, sanctioned or disciplined by any licensing board or state or local professional society or specialty board; that he/she shall inform the Sault Tribe Health Program of any and all judgments, malpractice actions, or any settlement payment, and that he/she has never been denied membership or reappointment to membership on the medical staff of any hospital and none of the hospital staff membership or clinical privileges have ever been suspended, curtailed or revoked. Will be required to undergo and successfully pass a background check. Must maintain a good moral character standing. Will be required to complete and pass pre-employment drug testing. Family Nurse Practitioner or Adult Nurse Practitioner Certification is required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Sufficient knowledge to provide primary medical care within the scope of practice required. Must be able to work with minimal supervision. Must perform duties within the scope of applicable licensure; such duties requiring oversight shall be under the direction of the Medical Director or Physician. Working hours will be determined by the needs of the particular site assigned and may include weekend and evening work. Native American preferred.
