2 openings available. Fairleigh Dickinson University-Metropolitan is seeking applicants for the position of Graduate Assistant-Communications. The individual will be a member of the FDU Athletics communications team and provide support to the department’s 21 varsity teams.

This position is a two-year position with the candidate pursuing a graduate degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University-Metropolitan. The position will be responsible for assisting and executing all publicity aspects for FDU’s athletic program and have the opportunity to serve as the primary contact for several teams.

Compensation includes tuition, housing, and a stipend.

This position will begin on August 1st or earlier.

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Serve as primary communications contact for assigned sport programs. Collaborate with colleagues to generate content ideas.  Solicit feedback from sports programs on objectives, goals and strategies, in addition to the creation and distribution of content. Manage social media channels for assigned sports programs. Facilitate multimedia student-athlete features in coordination with other departments. Design, write and edit various communications materials, such as student-athlete bios, press releases and feature stories for the department’s website conveying the voice of the coach, student-athletes and the program. Manage current and historical team information (rosters, statistics, record, photos, videos) of assigned sports. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements and preferred qualifications:

Earned Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education in Journalism, Communications, Sports Media, Sports Management or a related field. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team to meet expected deadlines and schedules. Good interpersonal skills and ability to work as a member of a production team covering a live event. Effective time management skills. Ability to work evenings/weekends and maintain a flexible work schedule. Background working in and filming athletics. Demonstrated aptitude in social media. Familiarity with managing accounts and serving as the primary administrator. Experience with Adobe Premier, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign preferred. Graphic design experience. Experience working with web technologies, including basic HTML and CMS tools (such as SideArm Sports, Genius Sports) preferred.
