The Valdosta State Athletic Department is accepting applications for multiple graduate assistant positions. Graduate assistants will help promote the Blazers’ 12 NCAA Division II intercollegiate athletic programs. Valdosta State University is a member of the highly competitive Gulf South Conference. The Blazers have won nine national championships, including four in football and eight total titles since 2000. Assistantship positions are available in Facilities/Game Operations (3 openings), Marketing/Promotions (1 opening), Communications (2 openings), and Blazer Sports Media (1 opening).

The Athletic Administration Graduate Assistants will receive a monthly stipend in addition to tuition remission (not fees) and will gain experience in a multitude of internal and external operations. These positions offer an exciting opportunity for those passionate about working in a fast-paced, professional environment while pursuing a graduate degree.

The Facilities/Game Operations Graduate Assistant responsibilities include, but not limited to, assisting the athletic administration with the management, administration and supervision of athletics facilities and athletic events including all aspects of game-day production; manage and communicate with game officials; manage venue work orders; coordinate with vendors and external groups to organize events and control inventory; assist in overseeing undergraduate 5th Year Aid students, and other duties as assigned. Responsibilities will be heavily involved with football, volleyball, soccer, men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, and softball, and the maintenance/supervision of the corresponding facilities. The Marketing/Promotions Graduate Assistant responsibilities include, but not limited to, assisting the athletic administration with developing and implementing marketing and sales plans for all sports with a focus on increasing overall attendance, student attendance and revenue. Prepare all aspects of game-day production and promotions; assist with all social media for the athletic department (Twitter/X, Instagram, Facebook) with the creation of content, including graphics and video; assisting with community outreach, helping coordinate events that coincide with athletic events and all VSU Athletics marketing efforts, and other duties as assigned. Athletic Administration Graduate Assistants will be involved with all twelve intercollegiate sports along with the competitive cheer and dance squads. (1 opening)

The Athletic Communications Graduate Assistant will serve as communications contact for multiple sports throughout the duration of the 2025-26 and the 2026-27 seasons. Tasks include, but not limited to: strong working knowledge of NCAA Live Stats (Genius) and Statcrew; writing press releases, game notes and feature stories; updating and maintaining the official athletics website; compiling statistics at athletic events; coordinating interviews and other requests with coaches and student-athletes; pitching story ideals to local and national media outlets; traveling with teams as needed; managing the press box/scorer’s table for home events for assigned sports, including overseeing the game day staff; performing assorted game day duties, such as public address announcing and scoreboard operation, as needed; assist with video production and editing, including recording video segments and game day highlights, feature interviews with student-athletes and coaches; reporting scores and results to the Gulf South Conference and the NCAA; and other duties as assigned. The Blazer Sports Media Graduate Assistant primary responsibility is to assist in the video production of live stream and to create video content for Valdosta State Athletics. Additional responsibilities include, but not limited to, setting up and directing multi-camera live-streaming events, maintaining the Athletic Video Archive, oversight and training of student personnel, assist in shooting highlights, interviews, and other creative stories surrounding Blazer Athletics, brainstorm content ideas to post on Blazer Athletics social media accounts, maintenance of all production equipment and the production environment, and independently run a sporting event due to simultaneous scheduling. The Blazer Sports Media GA will emerge with tons of footage to demonstrate their competency in every aspect of sports media production. (1 opening)

Appointment contingent on candidate being accepted to the VSU Graduate School in the program of the applicant’s choosing.  All graduate assistantships are renewable for two consecutive years (two years total). The 2nd year appointment is contingent upon successful completion of GA duties and responsibilities which includes maintaining a minimum of six graduate credits each semester of assistantship and maintaining at least a 3.00 cumulative GPA.  The candidate appointed to the position will receive a yearly stipend in addition to a tuition waiver. An additional summer stipend is available between the candidate's first and second year of employment. This person must be willing and able to work daily office hours, nights, and weekends throughout the academic school year including vacation periods.  Some travel may be required in these positions.  Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree and valid driver’s license.  Preferred start date: August 4, 2025
