**The School of STEM has an outstanding opportunity for a STEM Graduate Career Specialist to join their team.**
The primary purpose of the STEM Graduate Career Specialist is to provide career advising offered by the School of STEM Office of Graduate Studies. Working under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Career Services, the person in this role will offer comprehensive career guidance to both on-campus and online graduate students, on employer relations and events, and work with other key staff and University partners to enhance a comprehensive support plan with the goal of expanding the number, quality & diversity of professional career opportunities available for students. Internally, this position integrates career activities and advising into academic departments, classrooms, and student organizations on behalf of the School of STEM Office of Graduate Studies.
As a member of the Career Services employer relations team, the position assists with outreach, planning and implementation of Career Services programs, events, and services as they relate to the graduate programs’ needs within the School of STEM Office of Graduate Studies. The position is responsible for developing and continuing existing partnerships with local and regional employers — major corporations and startups — through effective phone, e-mail and face-to-face communication with key decision makers. This person identifies, sets up and promotes a variety of career opportunities, as well as counsels students on technical interviews and technical resume preparation specific to their fields. They help students translate their academic foundation into professional success. The position reports to the Assistant Director of Career Services.

This individual will work closely with the UWB Career Services team, Advancement, the chairs of the School of STEM various divisions, and the School's graduate and undergraduate student success office staff. They will serve as the focal point of graduate career advising for the School. As a result, this position will be a key resource and liaison to many units. This position will provide direct service to students, meeting the increased demand for STEM graduate student services. Well-employed alumni are critical to the future of UW Bothell. This position will create bridges to the employment community that facilitate graduate students' successful transition into careers of choice. As UW Bothell becomes a regional leader and sought-after source of interns and career hires, this position is critical as a connection point between students and the employment community. The objective of this position is to help students find meaningful and rewarding opportunities as he/she/they assist graduate students in obtaining employment after graduation and in continually developing their careers as alumni.
**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES** STEM Graduate Student Career Advising and Programming
+ Provide one-on-one student advising both in person and online, group career seminars and other related events such as career treks, to help students in the computing and engineering graduate programs secure jobs and internships by using industry and company knowledge to provide targeted advice and support.
+ Attend meetings as appropriate with various stakeholders.
+ Develop asynchronous materials that allows students to engage in career development opportunities on their own time.
+ Partner with staff and faculty in the School of STEM, and in addition alumni and business leaders, to provide opportunities for students to practice job seeking skills for technical companies such as technical resume and interview workshops, salary negotiation, and other technical industry specific job search strategies.
+ In collaboration with faculty, develop professional and career advising learning opportunities that integrate with graduate students’ overall educational experience.
+ Provide ongoing career support to alumni to enhance the value of a UWB STEM computing or engineering graduate degrees.
+ Utilize web-based applications, databases and editing software such as Learning Management Systems (Canvas), CRMS such as Slate and Nutshell, Web publishing such as Kentico and Marketo as tools to connect to various stakeholders including prospective employers, students, staff, faculty and Advisory Board members.Employer Relations & Development
+ In partnership with Career Services, School of STEM, and Advancement, educate employers about the UW Bothell STEM graduate degree programs, and available recruiting services, including company information sessions, on-campus interviews, resume searches, job and internship postings, and career fairs.
+ Plan and execute career development related events and programming, including site visits and workshops, in partnership with schools and relevant clubs.
+ Perform regular and ad hoc reporting on employer relations and development efforts, including tracking student destination data and employer and stakeholder engagement data in partnership with the career services office and the institutional research office.
+ Assist employers in developing effective recruiting strategies and setting goals; enforce University of Washington Bothell recruiting guidelines with employers and students.
+ Support the strategic employer development plan, including fostering relationships with new employers and support and/or coordination of employer visits as appropriate.
+ Promote Career Services and School of STEM diversity by developing and maintaining relationships with cultural & international student clubs & organizations, offering guidance and leadership to encourage full participation in co-curricular programming.
+ Collaborate closely with Career Services and the School of STEM to support school and division level programming, events, and participate in advisory boards as needed.General Outreach and Planning Support
+ In collaboration with team members, develop and maintain Career Services employer CRM and marketing materials relevant to STEM graduate programs.
+ Keep abreast of market trends and stakeholder interests; collect, evaluate, assess and report data related to program and program goals.
+ Recommend and implement program modifications based on results.Other
+ Assist with Career Services and STEM Office of Graduate Studies activities and events.
+ Collaborate with STEM undergraduate academic services staff on overlapping activities.
+ Other duties as assigned. **MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS**
+ Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Education, Career Counseling, or a related field with at least 4 years’ experience within higher education student advising, academic coaching or career counseling. **Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.** **ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS**
+ Demonstrated experience working with diverse communities and a commitment to diversity and social justice.
+ Experience developing and delivering programs related to diversity, equity, and inclusion, ideally in an academic setting.
+ Proven ability to function as a motivated, enthusiastic member of a team committed to providing excellent customer service.
+ Demonstrated commitment to collaboratively working with students, faculty and staff individually and in groups in a positive and effective manner.
+ Excellent organizational and group presentation skills/public speaking skills, both in-person and virtually.
+ Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing.
+ Computer literacy including ability to develop web-based resources and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. **DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS**
+ Experience developing/implementing workshops or other programming aimed at supporting minoritized populations.
+ Experience supervising and mentoring students and/or staff.
+ Experience in employee recruitment or talent development.
+ Experience working with employer, industry, or professional degree program stakeholders.
+ Experience with distance learning delivery.
+ Project management experience and event planning. **CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT**
+ The STEM Graduate Career Specialist is expected to attend major student activities and events both on campus and in the local community.
+ This role involves regular and frequent contact with students, alumni, faculty, staff, administrators, and external partners.
+ The work schedule often fluctuates due to after-hours activities, meetings, and events, requiring occasional evening and weekend commitments (including move in day and commencement) throughout the year. **Application Process:** The application process may include completion of a variety of online assessments to obtain additional information that will be used in the evaluation process.
