Are you eager to step into the world of design engineering? A leading multinational scaffolding firm engaged in large-scale projects, specializing in industrial scaffolding across Southern Africa is seeking a dynamic and passionate Graduate/Junior Design Engineer who is keen on temporary works design, with a particular emphasis on scaffolding in the Secunda.

MISSION: The incumbent will be part of the technical design and engineering team and will be required to perform scaffolding design calculations, structural steel design of scaffolding components and computer analysis of scaffolding structures. This engineer will also need to travel to site as required to assist clients with designs, on-site technical assistance during erection of structures and training. The sales team will request assistance with detailed explanation of technical information to clients, understanding cost sensitivity of designs, and ethical balance of income generation vs. giving the client the best offer. Previous sales experience will be an advantage.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The incumbent will be required to use AutoCAD for 3D modelling and drafting. They will be expected to assist the sales team and technical design team with creating 3D models of existing structures, modelling the scaffolding structure, checking stability and strength of the scaffolding structure and issuing drawings to the sales and technical teams. This position requires knowledge of and preferably experience in structures and structural analysis.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE: BTech/BEng/BSc of Structural or Civil Engineering (or equivalent) Minimum 2 – 5 years of experience Proficient in CAD design software (preferably AutoCAD from Autodesk) Strong technical understanding on steel structures Good verbal and written communication skills
ADDITIONAL EXPOSURE: Warehouse related activities, such as stock checks, stock counts, designing with available material only, and material stacking and storage principles. Back-end admin related activities, such as appropriate filing of designs, calculations and drawings, and invoice and quotation assistance.
