Arup’s Toronto office is seeking a Graduate Geotechnical Engineer to support current and future infrastructure projects. Typical design tasks include shallow and deep foundations, retaining walls and support of excavation, geotechnical parameter development and ground characterization, ground-structure interaction and construction impact assessments, and slope stability analysis. The Geotechnical and Tunnels group operates as one team in Toronto, and tunnel design work will be included in the role of a Geotechnical Engineer based on project need.
The opportunity
Interpret subsurface conditions and understand their impact on design and construction Perform design and analysis using various industry standard engineering software for excavations, foundations, seismic site response analyses, slopes, and underground structures, etc. Conduct ground movement predictions and building damage assessments Perform geotechnical and tunnelling finite element analysis using modelling software such as PLAXIS, FLAC, UDEC, and 3DEC Carry out empirical, analytical, and numerical analyses for purposes of tunnel and shaft design (initial support and final lining) for various tunnel construction methods such as drill and blast, sequential excavation method, or TBM bored Use and run subsurface information database systems Work in multidisciplinary teams for delivery of large-scale infrastructure projects for transportation, and water/wastewater Observe construction site works, geotechnical investigation, and the installation of subsurface elements during construction Aid in the preparation of engineering design reportsIs this role right for you?

Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor of Science in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering with a focus in Geotechnical Engineering, or Geological Engineering Strong communication and interpersonal skills needed for team-based working Excellent planning and organization skills required for our fast-paced environment Highly motivated, proactive, and willing to address new challenges Able to prioritize effectively, balance assigned work, and outstanding organization skills required for our constantly evolving environment Presentation skills with colleagues and clients of all levels Proficient in developing code or developing analysis tools (e.g. MatLab, Excel, MathCAD etc.)Preferred:
Master's or PhD in Geotechnical Engineering or Geological Engineering Advanced courses in foundations, soil mechanics, and rock mechanics Eligible to become a member of the PEO/OIQ/APEGA Bilingual in both French and English (written and verbal communication) Knowledge of finite element analysis software (e.g. Plaxis, FLAC, UDEC, RS, LSDyna, MIDAS etc.) Practice in slope stability analysis software (Slope/W, Slide, UTexas, etc.) Exposure and curiosity about programming (Python, Grasshopper, Visual Basic, Leapfrog, etc.) Proven understanding of CAD software (AutoCAD, MicroStation, Rhino, etc.) Knowledge of common types of shallow and deep foundation and retaining structures, including installation methodology Knowledge in geological and geotechnical interpretation with understanding of geological origin and process Curiosity about the field of underground engineering Active in engineering community through professional societies Evidence of personal investment in academic or extracurricular fieldOur teams notable projects

Toronto Hiring Range – Hiring Range - The good faith base salary hiring range for this job if performed in Montreal is $61, 000 to $70, 500 per year. This range is commensurate with experience, educational background, and skill level. Benefits are not included in the base salary. Please note hiring ranges for candidates performing work outside of Toronto will differ.
