A monthly living stipend and graduate school tuition. The applicant may enroll in any graduate program offered by Gonzaga University (School of Law and M.Ed. Counseling excluded) and is subject to the entrance requirements of the university (successful applicant must be admitted into a graduate program at Gonzaga for Fall 2023). 4 Year Degree Gonzaga Athletics is seeking applicants for a Graduate Intern for Life Skills. This internship directly supports the Department’s comprehensive Life Skills program and will prepare the intern to pursue full-time opportunities in student-athlete development. The ideal candidate will be hardworking, detail-oriented, and passionate about supporting the personal and professional development of student-athletes. The graduate intern will report directly to the Assistant Athletic Director/Compliance and Life Skills, but should be prepared to collaborate with the entire Life Skills team on a daily basis.
PURPOSE: The Life Skills Development Intern will assist the Director of Life Skills Development with the maintenance, progress and enhancement of the Gonzaga Athletics Life Skills Program as it relates to Community Outreach, Personal Development, Leadership Development and Career Development for the student-athletes of Gonzaga University.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Life Skills Development Programming & Event Support – 25%
Develop and implement comprehensive educational programming for Gonzaga student-athletes. Assist in career development programming including workshops, resume building and editing. Daily support given to S.A.A.C. Representatives and those participating in the Student-Athlete Leadership Institute. Co-instruct the EDPE 195 New Athlete Orientation course for freshmen student-athletes. Additional responsibilities of tracking attendance, course evaluations, and guest speaker feedback also required.
Community Outreach Tracking and Record Keeping – 20%
Coordinate community outreach and service opportunities. Manage NCAA Compliance paperwork and record keeping for community outreach. Manage PRIDE (The student-athlete development incentive program) scoring and record keeping.
Individual Academic Advising – 25%
Provide academic advisement, mentoring, and support for assigned freshmen and at-risk student-athletes. Provide registration assistance to continuing Gonzaga student-athletes each semester during the registration process. Assist student-athletes in academic planning and major/career exploration.
Multimedia Support – 15%
Create and maintain multimedia content for Life Skills Development website pages, S.A.A.C. social media outlets, and content for internal and external reporting.
Other/Miscellaneous Functions – 15%
Learn and perform continuing eligibility checks during each certification period for assigned student-athletes. Assist in course registration of incoming freshmen student-athletes each summer. Assist with preparation of reports for coaches, staff, the West Coast Conference, and the NCAA. Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Athletic Director-Compliance and Life Skills.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
This internship is a fully immersive experience replicating a full-time position in the field of Life Skills Development. In addition to regular office hours, this field often requires night and weekend hours where applicable to fulfill the responsibilities of this position. Applicant must have earned a bachelor’s degree prior to the start of the internship.
This is a two-year program starting June 16, 2025 – May 15, 2027 and is renewable for the second year by mutual agreement between both parties.

Interview Process:
Application materials will be accepted through Friday, February 28th, but interviews will begin as soon as February 24th. The multi-round interview process will take place throughout the month of March. These interviews will be a combination of phone and Zoom with various members of our staff. The successful applicant is expected to be identified by the end of March. This in-person internship is anticipated to start Monday, June 16, 2025 (start date can have some flexibility but will need to be discussed ahead of time).

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelors degree; highly organized with attention to detail; strong computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office, Adobe Design Suite); ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and meet established deadlines; excellent oral and written communication skills.
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS: Experience with intercollegiate athletics; knowledge of NCAA rules, regulations and academic requirements; familiarity with computer database systems (including NCAA CA); Bachelor’s degree in counseling, education, student development, business administration or sports management.
