Job DescriptionHuntington Ingalls Industries (HII) is seeking a currently enrolled graduate student with a background in statistics, biostatistics, engineering, operations research, computer science or mathematics to support the Scientific Test and Analysis Techniques Center of Excellence (STAT COE), located at the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio.
The STAT COE provides tremendous professional growth opportunities to improve your technical knowledge, hone your practical skills, and broaden your experience. The COE is a collaborative and energetic workplace where members discuss program challenges and work together to provide practical products to programs. You will be mentored by senior personnel to support defense acquisition test programs and create best practices or other COE products.
Essential Job ResponsibilitiesDuring your tenure you will:
Learn applications of statistics in the Department of Defense and Department of Homeland Security including collaboration with military, government civilians, and contractors Learn the foundations of scientific test and analysis techniques (STAT) including design of experiments, reliability, surveys, machine learning, and other statistical methods Apply scientific test and analysis techniques to improve critical thinking and problem-solving skills Learn how to explain statistics to other professions/team members Plan an experiment for real world execution (define, create, execute, and analyze) Increase both oral and written communication skills Use various statistical software packages to aid in data analysis Prepare for future job searches and interviews
We are at the forefront of applying advanced statistical techniques to test various defense systems and constantly exploring new methodologies. Your will complete your summer with a final presentation on the project(s) you worked on.
This position is on-site in Dayton Ohio and no housing or travel funding is provided.

Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent + Must be working towards a Bachelor's degree with between 40% and 60% of the required credits completed. A current graduate student enrolled in a of a statistics, biostatistics, engineering operations research, computer science, or mathematics degree (masters or PhD) A United States citizen Basic understanding of statistics (at least one course) Preferred Requirements(Desired) Previous experience with programming/software (eg. JMP, Matlab, R, SAS, SPSS, C++, etc.)
