Position Summary

The graduate student life administrator provides administrative and operational support to the Assistant Dean for Student Life for Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies. Under general supervision, this position will manage programs related to Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies with responsibility for logistics and financial-related decisions for those programs. This position advises student leaders and programs to ensure they maintain high standards related to student life and community development that support the educational mission of the institution.

The ideal candidate has excellent communication, interpersonal, time management, and organization skills and is proactive and service-oriented.

Workplace Requirements

This position is exclusively on-site, necessitating all duties to be performed in person at Sewall Hall, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Per Rice policy 440, work arrangements may be subject to change.

This is a full-time, benefits-eligible position, and the proposed salary range is $48,700 to $60,800 annually, depending on qualifications and experience. *Exempt (salaried) positions under FLSA are not eligible for overtime.

Minimum Requirements

Advising high-level student leaders in 1-1 setting Ability to manage events and programs Ability to instruct students in program planning

Preferences

Experience in student life, student affairs, or student development Experience with cloud applications (Google Docs, Google Sheets, etc.)

Essential Functions

Supports department mission, vision, and goals Oversees the coordination of complex events and programs. Responsible for program logistics, including budgeting and risk management Oversees and processes a variety of financial transactions for student groups Guides and trains student workers, including scheduling, assigning, and prioritizing workloads Performs other duties as assigned.

Additional Functions

Student Support:

Provide primary support for Orientation and Commencement activities Available to work evenings and weekends to support student events Connect with students to predict, respond to, and resolve student concerns regarding events and group activities Provide feedback for event plans, including compliance with the Alcohol Policy and other Rice policies

Administrative Support:

Support platform usage, including OwlNest, iO, EZCater, rooms.rice, and more Connect students with appropriate staff for additional support Monitor Discord servers for concerns from incoming students and student groups Occasional front desk coverage

Working Conditions

Must be able to lift and carry up to 30 pounds. Requires walking or standing up to eight hours per day.
