Grant Accountant
Description A nonprofit Downtown Los Angeles is seeking an experienced Grant Accountant to join the team! This role is pivotal in ensuring the accurate management of grants for our nonprofit organization. The Grant Accountant will oversee financial activities for government (federal, state, and local) and foundation grants, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations, nonprofit accounting principles, and grant requirements. The ideal candidate will bring a deep understanding of nonprofit accounting practices, experience managing restricted funds, and strong attention to detail. This position is ON SITE in the office 5 days a week. Responsibilities + Grant Management: Oversee the financial aspects of grant-funded programs, including budget preparation, tracking expenditures, and ensuring compliance with Uniform Guidance and grantor-specific requirements. + Grant Reporting: Prepare and submit timely and accurate financial reports to grantors, including monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements. + Budget Oversight: Collaborate with program and department staff to develop grant budgets, monitor spending, and adjust forecasts as necessary to ensure alignment with grant allocations. + Billing and Invoice Preparation: Process and submit grant-related billing, ensuring all invoices meet contractual and regulatory requirements. + Compliance Monitoring: Maintain thorough knowledge of all grant agreements and applicable federal/state regulations to ensure compliance. + Auditing Support: Assist with grant-related audits, providing necessary documentation and analysis as required. + Accounting: Maintain accurate records in accordance with nonprofit accounting principles, including the tracking of restricted funds. + Collaboration: Work closely with the finance, program, and development teams to align financial strategies with grant requirements. Requirements Qualifications + Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field. + A minimum of 3–5 years of professional experience in nonprofit accounting, with a focus on grants management. + Strong understanding of nonprofit accounting standards, restricted fund accounting, and Uniform Guidance compliance. + Proficiency in accounting software and advanced knowledge of Excel (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUPs). + Experience with ERP systems or grant management software is preferred. + Exceptional attention to detail, with proven ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities. + Strong analytical skills, with the ability to explain financial data to non-financial stakeholders. + Excellent communication and teamwork skills. + Familiarity with the Los Angeles nonprofit landscape. + Experience working with government and foundation grants (e.g., federal, state, local agencies).
