Education and Work Experience:
1. Education: Required - bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Business, Communications, Writing, Liberal Arts, or related field. Two years’ work experience may be considered in lieu of one year's college or university education. Social work background a plus.
2. Experience: Any equivalent combination of training and experience equaling three years of working as a grant writer.

Scope of Position:
To research, develop, and implement a plan for the ongoing cultivation and acquisition of financial support from community, corporate and private foundations for programs and services offered by The Salvation Army Cascade Division in coordination with Corps Officers and staff with priorities and focus in Oregon.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

Knowledge required: Use a computer effectively and efficiently in the working environment; use standard office machines (e.g., fax, copier, multi-line telephone, keyboard); use standard office practices and procedures; read, write, and speak the English language to express ideas and communicate effectively.

Skill required: Draft, edit, and write grant proposals; persuasive communications; type 40 wpm; use Microsoft (primarily Outlook, Word, Excel, Publisher and PowerPoint, Teams) software to correctly manage multiple calendars, manage and create documents, reports, and presentations; use virtual meeting platforms; use basic math (add, subtract, multiply, divide); establish effective working relationships; attention to detail, operate a motor vehicle.
Abilities required: Interact with individuals using accepted business behaviors and standards. Use interpersonal skills to deal effectively with others in favorable and unfavorable situations. Organize, prioritize, and plan own work to meet deadlines. Multitask, i.e., change work focus or respond to change of conditions and interruptions in workflow. Learn new systems and procedures. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Related to Grant Writing:
1. Research foundations, corporations, and other organizations, using available means, resources, and contacts, to find grants and support for The Salvation Army's corps, programs, and Capital Campaigns in Oregon.
2. Communicate with appropriate personnel to gather information to acquire information for grant proposals.
3. Develop and write grant proposals and requests for funding, including all required documents, to persuasively communicate The Salvation Army's mission and programs to potential granters.
4. Ensure accuracy, quality, and timeliness of grant proposals, requests for funding, reports, and updates.
5. Provide updates and reports to granters and funders as required.
6. Initiate, develop, and maintain personal contact with granters as appropriate, to maintain ongoing relationships to promote Salvation Army activities and proposals as needed.
7. Review, update, and maintain current foundation information so that annual grant awards are received.
8. Update granter records using designated databases.
9. Communicate information to divisional staff to allow tracking and recording of communications with foundation and corporation granters to coordinate grant proposals throughout the Cascade Division.
10. Develop and maintain appropriate database to track foundations, program criteria, contacts, deadlines, grant makers funding cycle, and all other information necessary for grant seeking purposes.
11. Create and maintain files containing basic Salvation Army information applicable for grant requests.
12. Develop "standard proposal" templates that can be modified to adhere to specific foundation guidelines as relating to Salvation Army projects, programs, and services in the Cascade Division. Related to knowledge and support of The Salvation Army in Oregon
13. Thoroughly understand The Salvation Army's programs and services.
14. Thoroughly understand the goals and objectives of Capital Campaigns.
15. Meet with local leadership team at corps and programs to identify funding needs and plan grant writing/funding options and resources. Travel as needed to acquire or to keep knowledge current.
16. Support Donor Relations Directors communication efforts with community and family Foundations by providing necessary divisional and program information as needed.
17. Provide support to development staff at events and functions with supervisor's approval.
18. Provide editorial support to development staff by supporting mailing and collateral efforts with grammatical and copy review as needed.
19. Create an annual fiscal year plan for grant/ foundation support to prioritize grant writing proposals. Grant proposals will also be prioritized by local circumstances, including the potential to bring the greatest amount of funding and need. This plan is to be approved by the Executive Director of Development. The plan may be adjusted to avoid limiting grant proposal opportunities that unexpectedly arise.
20. Regularly discuss work priorities with the Executive Director of Development to resolve issues and adjust work priorities.
21. Perform other related duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:
Reaching - extending hands and arms in any direction.

Fingering - picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling

Pulling - using upper extremities to exert force to draw, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.

Lifting - raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position.

Pushing - using upper extremities to press against something with steady force to thrust forward, downward, or outward.

Grasping - applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.

Talking - expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly.

Hearing - perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Repetitive motion - substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.

Driving or riding in a motor vehicle long distance at night and in all types of weather conditions encountered in work locales.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Sedentary work - exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
The worker is subject to environmental conditions. Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Travel and overnight stays may be required for work, events, training, conferences, seminars, etc. as related to the position. Must be able to travel by airplane.

MISCELLANEOUS:

The candidate chosen for this position will be required to pass a criminal history information check. Conviction of a crime will not automatically preclude employment. The circumstances involved in the conviction(s) will be considered.

Must have a valid driver's license and a good driving record. Must pass a motor vehicle record check. Must pass The Salvation Army's driving education course within 30 days of employment.
