Job Description

SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, the Grants Manager’s primary role is to manage and oversee sponsored research for the College for Community Health.  The grants manager facilitates active grant funding through external funding sources. This position works closely with faculty members to determine their research interests, identifies and pursues external funding opportunities, provides professional development and support for faculty/staff in all aspects of the grants process, and coordinates all aspects of grant and external fund development, including assisting and guiding researchers with grant administration and budget preparation.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Meet with faculty/staff members to ascertain interests and discuss opportunities for research and grants.

Provide guidance and interpretation of funding agency regulations and requirements; review proposals for compliance with policies, regulations, and procedures, and facilitate documentation requirements.

Foster a culture of grant-seeking in the College.

Identify promising funding sources and opportunities for specific research projects or initiatives.

Research professional development opportunities to support and cultivate faculty scholarship.

Partner with the Associate Deans for Academic Affairs to create and maintain a faculty research database.

Facilitate opportunities for collaboration by identifying potential collaborations within the college and across the University.

Organize and lead grant program information sessions.

Provide support in all phases of grant development, including generating ideas, understanding RFPs, writing proposals, managing budgets, administering grants, and writing reports.

Assist in proposal development and preparation, including providing common boilerplate text, assisting in the development of program narratives, analyzing and editing content to ensure compliance with RFP requirements and evaluation criteria, and assisting in budget preparation.

Provide editing assistance to faculty and staff writing proposals, including reading through proposals for general grammar and adherence to the particular guidelines of the agency (i.e. NIH) and/or requirements of the RFP to increase the competitiveness of proposals.

Supervise Post Award Facilitator(s).

Collaborate with principal investigators, project directors, and other university offices with pre and post-award matters.

Assemble the final proposal package for submission to the Office of Sponsored Programs for submission to the funding agency.

Serve as a conduit for communication and liaison with other University Research and Development Office, funding agencies, and program officers. 

Attend technical assistance meetings related to RFPs to be fully informed about funding priorities and the process for seeking funding.

Attend College meetings and departmental meetings upon request.

Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED:

Master’s degree from an accredited university in higher education or management/administration.

Minimum four (4) years of successful proposal writing and grant administration, preferred experiences in the fields of human services.

Experience with funding agencies and/or foundations including NSF, NIH, and human services foundations.

Experience with electronic research submission protocols and excellent computer skills.

Experience with preparing and managing budgets.

Customer service orientation with problem-solving and self-initiative skills.

Ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply established university, college, and departmental regulations, policies, and procedures.

Strong oral and written communication skills and highly developed interpersonal skills.

PREFERRED:

Ability to work well with people of diverse backgrounds and talents.

Knowledge of higher education and P-12 educational settings.

Knowledge of accounting.

Proficient with technology: including word processing, spreadsheets, Google Suite

Knowledge of data management and business administration practices and procedures.
