Position Overview

DAI seeks a Grants Specialist for the Strive USA program, funded by the Mastercard Center for Inclusive Growth. Strive USA is designed to provide small businesses with the support they need to achieve sustainable growth and financial resilience, with explicit focus on women and entrepreneurs of color. This program will bring together community financial institutions (CFIs), networks of business support organizations (BSOs), and technology platforms to empower underserved small businesses to overcome common roadblocks across the US.

The Grants Specialist will utilize their experience in grants management to provide specialized support to the Strive USA team. This self-directed, hands-on individual will independently coordinate multiple aspects of the grants management process and report to Strive USA’s Senior Grants Manager. The role involves close collaboration with other members of DAI’s Sustainable Business Group to advance DAI's priorities and objectives.

This is a Full-time temporary position, that requires the ability to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Responsibilities Grant Development:

-        Collaborate with the Senior Grants Manager to craft compelling narratives that align with the program’s strategic objectives.

-        Manage the evaluation process, including summarizing proposals, preparing review materials, and facilitating review meetings.

-        Ensure consistency, clarity, and alignment in all grant proposal documents, including budgets, work plans, and supporting materials.

-        Draft, edit, and finalize grant agreements and supporting documents.

Process Improvement:

-        Review and analyze existing Strive USA grantmaking policies, procedures, and templates, providing recommendations for enhancement.

-        Continuously update and refine templates and resources based on feedback and evolving best practices.

Due Diligence:

-        Conduct comprehensive due diligence on potential grantees, including reviewing financial statements, organizational capacity, governance structures, and compliance history.

-        Assess the risk profile of potential grantees, identifying any potential legal, financial, or operational risks.

-        Prepare detailed due diligence reports and present findings to the Senior Grants Manager and relevant stakeholders.

Grant Implementation:

-        Maintain accurate and organized records of grant applications, agreements, and reports.

-        Coordinate logistics for meetings, site visits, and other events related to the grantmaking process, including scheduling, agenda preparation, and minute-taking.

-        Monitor grantee progress and ensure compliance with grant terms and conditions through regular reviews of progress reports. Escalate issues as needed to Senior Grants Manager

-        Coordinate with the Strive USA MEL team and operations team to ensure timely and accurate disbursement of grant funds based on accurate reporting.

-        Liaise with grantees to resolve any issues related to payments or financial reporting, ensuring smooth and efficient grant implementation.

Grant Closeout:

-        Oversee the grant closeout process, ensuring all required documentation is complete and accurate.

-        Audit grant files for completeness and accuracy.

-        Coordinate with the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) team to finalize all reporting and assessment activities.

-        Ensure that all financial obligations are met and documented, including final payments, financial reconciliations, and reporting.

Additional responsibilities as deemed necessary.

Qualifications & Skills Minimum Requirements:

-        Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of two years of professional experience in grants management.

-        Proven experience in a similar role, demonstrating hands-on, self-directed capabilities.

-        Strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

-        Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally.

-        Ability to synthesize diverse information into cohesive, clear, and actionable outputs.

-        Capacity to work independently and collaborate effectively with team members.

Compensation & Benefits:

This position and any offer extended is contingent upon project funding and client approval.

For employees working the United States, the full-time equivalent annual base salary for this position is expected to be between $60,000 to $75,000. Actual offers will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, qualifications, relevant education, experience, skills, seniority, performance, and business or organizational needs.

Eligible U.S. based employees, will be able to enroll in medical, dental and vision insurance, plus a 401(k)-retirement plan with a company match. Additionally, employees will be eligible for company-paid annual leave (vacation & holidays), sick leave, parental leave; as well as short- and long-term disability coverage. Detailed information will be provided at the time a formal offer is extended.

For employees working outside of the United States, compensation and benefits will vary based on location.
