Graphic Design Lead

Under general direction of the Sr. Director of Marketing and Communications at the Thunderbird School of Global Management this position collaborates with a diverse group of stakeholders to create compelling visual content that reflects the school's Global Mindset, cross-sectoral leadership, and future-forward mission. This position will lead a variety of projects ranging from designing digital campaigns to small- and large-scale print materials, contributing to our world-class brand's visual identity and storytelling. Assumes primary responsibility for ensuring all school materials are on-brand and of the highest quality. This role also supports Thunderbird’s web and digital presence, ensuring optimal performance by integrating impactful UX/UI insights from a visual design perspective.
 
This position will work in collaboration with other members of the Branding and Communications team to ensure objectives are met. A successful candidate for this position has a creative eye, a passion for design, have great intuition, and the ability to thrive in a high-energy environment. Develop and execute creative design concepts for both print and digital media, including brochures, presentations, social media graphics, event materials, advertising layouts, billboards, posters, exhibits, flyers, letterheads, logos, certificates, landing pages, annual reports, information brochures, and other departmental publications.Leads the creation and design of digitally designed graphics, art, and animations for use in a variety of multimedia platforms including interactive digital assets.Serve as a key player in brand strategy, contributing to the continuous evolution of Thunderbird’s visual identity to stay ahead of global trends and maintain the school’s competitive edge.Leads the preparation of printing specifications for print shop; obtains bids and recommends contract awards; maintains contact with vendors to ensure adherence to time schedules and specifications.May use a variety of desktop publishing, graphic design, web development/management and animation tools. May assist in the design and implementation of internal and external web pages and applications.Translate complex, global narratives into visually compelling stories that resonate with Thunderbird’s diverse audience, including prospective students, global partners, and alumni.Ensure brand consistency across all deliverables while pushing the creative boundaries to keep Thunderbird’s design fresh and future-focused.Collaborate with marketing, communications, and academic teams to create visually engaging materials that resonate with global audiences.Translate complex ideas into visually appealing, accessible designs, catering to Thunderbird’s diverse, international audience.Stay updated on design tools, trends, and best practices, applying a global mindset to all projects.Collaborate with web developer to implement enhancements on Thunderbird landing pages and web environment that enhance accessibility, improve user experience, increase engagement, and drive conversions.Ensures adherence of digital, visual and graphic design to Thunderbird’s brand positioning and strategy messaging across all channels and formats. Strong work ethic, professional attitude, and a desire to excel within a start-up environment. Ability to demonstrate extreme level of professionalism with agencies, internal team members and external collaborators. Resourceful, well organized, highly dependable, efficient and detail oriented. Ability to take direction and work in a team environment. Positive, self-starter attitude and desire to exceed at every opportunity. Assumes or coordinates other duties or projects as assigned or directed.
 

Bachelor¿s degree in Digital Art, Multimedia, Game Art & Design, Animation, or a related commercial arts field and six (6) years of related professional experience, Or, any equivalent combination of experience or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved. 

Evidence of a portfolio demonstrating creative excellence in digital and print designDemonstrated knowledge in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and other computer-generated graphic design software programs/toolAbility to juggle multiple projects while maintaining attention to detail and meeting deadlines.Demonstrated knowledge of global trends in visual storytelling and the ability to adapt designs for diverse, international audiencesDemonstrated knowledge and skill in graphic design and layoutKnowledge of printing procedures and requirementsKnowledge of HTML; Knowledge of UI/UX principles and design for web-based platformsDemonstrated knowledge with Drupal web environment platformDemonstrated knowledge with digital asset management (DAM) toolsKnowledge of the principles, methods and techniques of news writing; experience in AP style writingExperience working both independently and collaboratively in order to complete tasksAbility to effectively communicate to both internal B&C team members, external Thunderbird colleagues, and external vendors.Experience with project management platformsEvidence of effective communication skillsExperience working in a higher education, or a globally-focused organization, and/or executive environment.
