Summary/Objective
The Graphic Designer, Apparel & Accessories is responsible for bringing the vision of the Marmot and ExOfficio Brands to life through innovative, trend-right and Brand-right graphic designs (assets, onproduct graphics/trims/accessories), prints and patterns, and yarn dyes that are cutting-edge and fresh.
The Graphic Designer forges strong partnerships with creative peers to create – from concept to reality - compelling and fresh product coveted by Marmot and ExOfficio fans everywhere. This role creates original graphic and print designs to be used across logowear, trims, labels and accessories.
The Graphic Designer stays current with print techniques, works with developers and vendors to test new methods and provides input to the Design team and vendors on the best printing technique to achieve the desired visual effects that meet quality and cost targets.
The Graphic Designer coordinates the project management of external graphic design help, design assistants, interns or contract service work when needed. This role develops and adheres to a design schedule to ensure timely completion of designs and design packages according to the development calendar. This role is responsible for working cross-functionally with the Design and Materials Teams and Development office in Asia.
The Graphic Designer mentors and teaches Design team members and creates an inspirational, fun, creative environment and design community. The incumbent should also have a willingness to learn and stay current on innovations in graphic manufacturing and finishing processes.

Work with the team to interpret graphics against a brief – collaborating and communicating closely with the Apparel Design team, Category Managers and Product Engineering team. Create artwork with color/size/technique indication under ambitious timelines. Coordinate timelines and workflow within Product team to hit key dates and checkpoints. Nurture the Brand identity and distinctive apparel offerings with a creative and brand appropriate design vision. Originate signature look and tone/voice of the Brand through graphics. • Interact cross functionally with Category Managers, Developers, and Vendors. Collaborate with artists and experts to keep Marmot on the cutting edge of prints and graphics. Support Designers in creation of visual tools for sales meetings, seasonal kick-off meetings, pre-lines or in-house dealer presentations. Actively lead creation of Brand and Seasonal presentation templates. Interpret, manipulate, revise and adjust purchased studio artwork to meet aesthetic objectives. Prepare, organize, maintain, and update all artwork packages inclusive of mill & pitch sheets, vector art files, layout, scale and technique references for release to vendors. Ensure graphic execution meets all standards throughout the development process and proactively resolve execution issues with internal team and vendors. Maintain graphics reference library and historical graphics archives. Provide and update artwork CADs for line sheets, seasonal workbooks and other presentations. Assist the Design and Product Development team with any illustrations required for vendor manuals, measurement guides and other reference materials. Research and travel to key regional markets for print trend and color analysis. Travel to printers, fabric mills and relevant trade shows as requested.
Key Performance Measurements (“KPM’s”)
Achieve annual sales objectives and growth plans associated with new designs and direction of product developments appropriate to distribution plans of Marmot. Timely reviews of Concept and Strategies for seasonal direction. Timely execution of deliverables on spec packages with Product Engineering. Alignment of product design with category innovation and performance needs as well as product gross margin and sales goals. Execution of coordination involved to deliver upon sample needs.

Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, ability to adjust focus and discern colors.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., for a total of 40 hours per week. This is an on-site position in Rohnert Park consistent with current or updated office policies. Evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
Travel
This position requires moderate travel, about 15-20%. Most travel is outside the local area and overnight. Some of the travel is international.
Education, Experience, Skills and Competencies
Bachelor's Degree in Design (graphics), or equivalent combination of education and experience. 3 to 5 years of design experience in the outdoor, active wear or sportswear industry required. Experience designing apparel graphics, prints and patterns across categories with a record of commercial success Has strong knowledge of printing techniques, embroideries and other graphic executions. Expert level and current Mac, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign skills. Avid trend researcher, market observer, and creator of art, font-work, textile/surface design and graphic direction. Strong understanding/connection with outdoor consumer both personally and professionally. Experience in research and analysis, design cycles, and managing complete product/collection cycles. Travel required. Must be free to travel domestically and internationally. Proactive and passionate approach to driving fresh, innovative thinking from concept to execution. Excellent communication and presentation skills that can present and sell in to all levels of the organization and customer, communicating a clear and inspiring vision. Self starter who brings a level of passion, enthusiasm, and focus to their day to day business and is able to multi-task in a fast paced environment. Able to manage to deadlines, be flexible with change, drive to timely resolution. Strong knowledge in creating collections for the retail floor. Strong knowledge and understanding of apparel construction. Basic knowledge of manufacturing processes and comfortable in foreign work environments. Strong knowledge of aesthetic form and the ability to design for different consumers and end uses. Basic knowledge of textile and material construction and properties. Basic knowledge of product costs and impact of design. Ability to inspire other Designers. Obsessive attention to detail at the levels of graphic design and presentation. High communication skills for both interpersonal relationships and presentation – the ability to influence all cross functional partners to deliver unrivaled graphic designs on time and on target. Fast, efficient, nimble. Experience working in a shifting and collaborative environment with a great deal of constructive feedback and input.
