Job Description:

The Graphics Operator I executes graphics on an intermediate level using ESPN developed playout applications for event and studio productions.  Maintains quality of ESPN’s on-air product for daily/nightly studio and event productions.

Departmental Summary:

We build, enhance, and playout the Animation + Graphics Innovation + Production Design team’s world-class designs, utilizing the most state-of-the-art graphics technology in the industry.  We are partners with all studio and event productions to showcase statistics and sports information around the clock to enhance our visual storytelling. We are constantly evaluating and adapting our workflows while staffing for maximum efficiencies.

Responsibilities:

Operates ESPN developed playout applications for live Studio and Event productionsWorks independently on Studio and Event assignmentsEnforces studio and remote formats of ESPN’s networks and its promo lookEnsures the accuracy and timely preparation of graphics assigned to productionsAble to effectively communicate across the organization to report technical problems.  Must also be able to clearly articulate source of problems in defective equipment reportsRequired to work flexible hours and days as production assignments dictate including weekends, nights and holidaysMaintain administrative records including shift assignment reports and other required documentationUpholds production assist responsibilities when necessaryTrains new hires on various Studio productionsFulfill Show Lead responsibilities on multiple productions, including thorough graphics documentation, workflow efficiencies, communication with peers

Qualifications:

Able to perform at an intermediate level with functions of Windows-based playout applicationsPhotoshop skills to assist Design group with headshot cutoutsMinimum of 2 years of on-air graphics systems playout experience in a major market or at the network level Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications are necessaryThorough sports knowledge is preferred Candidates must be highly motivated, willing to work unusual hours and must demonstrate the ability to work under pressure to meet ever-changing deadlinesMust be accurate spellers and possess strong communication skillsMust have reliable transportation to work

Preferred Qualifications:

Demonstrates versatility on all studio shows including international productions.Proficient use of ESPN IMS (Image Management System) for cataloging logos/headshots and custom graphics and Sales elementsProficient understanding of ESPN production terminology, control room etiquette and overall professionalismProficient understanding of the various graphic packages and operational procedures

Required Education:

High School Diploma or Equivalent

Preferred Education:

College degree in Communications, Television & Video Production, Multi-Media, Sports Broadcast Journalism
