Job Description

Summary:      Performs, process, maintains and improves all technical aspects in the graphics and pre-press area to include Customer relationships, art files/designs, implementation for current and new jobs/product production and responsible for all graphic projects for the local major customer as well as other smaller size customers if time allows. Ensures the integrity of customer approvals and pre-press (Gravure and Offset) approvals both in the local plant as well as in the other plants running the customer product(s). Lead the Pre-press process including preflight, file prep, file edits, proofing, layouts and plate making.

Job Responsibilities & Performance Standards:

Coordinates and Liaison with Customer (and the Regional Account Mgr) regarding designs, graphics and color issues.

Compile, analyze, prepare, modify, color-correct and verify content of customer-supplied digital files, data and materials into Press-Ready files.

Effectively coordinates and communicates with Customer regarding new, improved or changed artwork and designs and graphics apply stringent controls to color and ink issues.

Promotes active customer involvement by processing new designs, ideas, and printing substrates to maximize production to customer satisfaction while keeping additional or new costs to a minimum.

Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of the fundamental principles and techniques required for customer product while working independently to deliver the highest quality product.

Effectively coordinate between customer and suppliers when needed to issue correct layouts, designs, color printing sequence, ink and board specs are understood between all parties.

Excellent communication skills are required and high business ethics when dealing with customer.

Maintain quality control and product improvement through technical expertise and experience.

Order, design and maximize use of all cylinders required to meet production needs.  Utilize existing cylinders and designs whenever possible to control costs.

Create new Offset Plates in accordance with customer specifications.

Secure all pertinent information relevant to the decision-making requirements of new vs. old cylinders.

Effectively relate new designs to cylinder vendors to secure highest quality equipment to meet production needs.

Design and implement tooling needs to insure availability to production with fewest down- and make-ready times.

Maintain highest Productivity involving all other Graphics/Pre-press Coordinators at the various sites to maximize production and costs.

Effectively utilize advanced technologies to implement computer solutions to improve the graphic function.

Work with all levels of production teams to gain insight into ongoing printing issues as they relate to current cylinder and tool usage.  Utilize test materials to determined exact color matching and design flow working with various production personnel to ensure full compliance with customer graphic requests.         

Maintain full documentation of all Graphic Functions for the major customer to ensure and maintain highest customer confidence.

Ensure all tests and testing materials are property documented in terms of        

composition and all record keeping complies with standard policies and procedures as well as industry standards.

Maintain confidential nature of all graphics related information including computer files, documents, samples and conversations.

Document, record and develop tracking of and analysis of life of various plates, cylinders, tooling and re-use.           

Control costing issues through administration of graphic and plate making function.

Control costing of equipment used, cylinders, tooling etc. by effective dealings with suppliers and vendors to insure the highest quality equipment while maintaining costs at market or lower level.

Control and approval all invoices involved in the graphic/production process making sure all documentation is properly executed, signed and approved.

Understand the OHSE and Quality obligations, actively support the policies and implement the guiding principles in everyday activities.

Any and all other assignments, task, and projects as may be requested by management.

Requirements:

Technical degree in Graphic Design or minimum of five (5) years experience in gravure or offset print industry.Experience in design and creation of offset plates.Excellent PC skills including Microsoft experience (Excel, Word).  Must be proficient with Pre-press applications such as: Quark, Adobe CC (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat).Strong interpersonal skills, with particular ability to work within team environment.

Physical Demands:

This position may require prolonged periods of sitting, stooping, standing, and/or reaching, balancing, climbing, kneeling, crouching, reaching with hands and arms, hearing and speaking.  Use of close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus.  Ability to occasionally lift up to 40 lbs.Must be able to travel both domestically and internationally.
