The Grinder will set up and operates machines to smooth, sharpen, polish, or grind metal work pieces to specification. They are responsible for setting up and tending grinding machines in order to grind external or internal cylindrical tapered surfaces of metal pieces and follows instructions and charts during grinding procedure.

Duties & Responsibilities

Performs basic operation of equipment to produce to rate and meet quality standards.Sets up and operates grinding or polishing machines to grind metal work pieces such as dies, parts, and tools.Grinds external or internal cylindrical tapered surfaces.Reads and interprets charts, drawings and blueprints.Confirms ground work piece has the correct specifications.Monitors machine operations to determine whether adjustments are necessary; stop machines when problems occur.Inspects, feels, and measures work pieces to ensure that surfaces and dimensions meet specifications.Determines grinding speeds, feed rates, holding fixtures and grinding wheels to be used.Uses proper wheel guards on all grinding machines.Changes worn grinding wheels and checks for cracks.Observes machine during operation.Performs housekeeping tasks to maintain a clean and orderly workstation and performs basic machine upkeep, such as wiping down outside surface of machine, lubrication, etc.May hand deburr or sand parts, as needed.

Education & Experience

At least 1 year related manual or CNC grinding experience or equivalent combination of experience and training.Must have knowledge of shop practices and procedures, ability to read blueprints, and ability to use hand tools and measuring instruments.Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, blueprints and procedure manuals.Ability to write routine data on routers and SPC charts. /*generated inline style */   All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or status as a protected veteran. /*generated inline style */ For informational purposes only, the range of pay for this role is $23.00 to $29.00 US Dollar (USD) Hourly based on a variety of factors.  For informational purposes only, this role is eligible to participate in the Company’s Quarterly Cash Bonus Plan, paid out at the quarterly bonus factor of 1X the Company’s bonus multiple, based on the Company’s performance in the applicable quarter.
