Ground Control EIT

 

Position Description:

The Ground Control EIT will assume responsibility for all short-term ground control issues (determined by the 3-month schedule), including planning and implementation of solutions. The Ground Control EIT will report to the Senior Ground Control Engineer.

 

The Ground Control EIT will be expected to adjust the ground control planning schedule in accordance with the short-term mining plan within their specific area and generally be aware of and contribute to the overall mine targets. 

 

The Ground Control EIT will provide all ground-support plans & geotechnical information to the planners and the operating groups in an accurate and timely manner to assist the mine in meeting or exceeding its targets.

 

The Ground Control EIT is expected to complete regular underground inspections, to keep updated with the ground control requirements of various areas, to respond to ground occurrence reports or requests for ground control inspections and to conduct quality control assessments of ground support installation.  In addition, effective working relationships must be developed with all operating groups to ensure communication of ground control information is maintained at the highest level.

 

 

Responsibilities:

Promote safe working practices and complete Field Level Risk Assessment (FLRA), 5-point safety cards & non-routine hazardous tasks regularly (5-pt safety card and FLRA to be completed on every underground trip and submitted to the SGC). Review 3 monthly production and development plans and disseminate these schedules into a self-managed work plan over the same period. Review the seismic system daily and review seismic activity.  Maintain the seismic database (removing erroneous readings, etc). Alert all operating groups if/when necessary and maintain a log of seismic activity. Discuss ground control concerns with planners within their specific mining area and if possible, devise a solution and/or raise an alert to higher levels, as necessary. Discuss changes in short-term mining sequences with the Senior Ground Control Engineer as early as possible to allow an effective evaluation of the sequence change. Undertake sufficient underground tours, either alone or with relevant persons from other departments as necessary, in order to carry out ground control evaluations of active mine areas and travel ways. Ensure responses are prompt to Ground Occurrence Reports by liaising with the person submitting the report (and/or their supervisor) and facilitate a decision on a plan of action before issuing a formal written response. Maintain accurate and written records of trips underground. Conduct Geotechnical Mapping in underground openings and maintain the database efficiently. (Data to be used in stope assessment and spatial damage mapping logs. Undertake sufficient core shack checks to ensure Geotechnical Core Logging is happening as required.  Conduct the designing and issuing of layout drawings for rehab, cable bolts, etc. Conduct QAQC audits of installed support and operator installation methods, level conditions, grout samples, pull tests, etc. as required. Ensure working databases of all job aspects are maintained properly (rehab and ground support plan issues, geotechnical inspections, underground geotechnical mapping, and geotechnical core logging, QAQC, instrumentation, etc).

 

 

Qualifications:

Bachelor of mining engineering or geology or equivalent Ground control experience is preferred Knowledge and experience of rock mechanics 2D & 3D numerical modeling software (e.g. Map3D and other Rocscience numerical modeling software) Excellent data entry skills Experience in Deswik & MS office Attention to detail  High level multi-tasking and organization  Good interpersonal skills Excellent Communication skills Leadership qualities
