Purpose of Role: At Weir, sustainability is intentionally rooted in the strategy function, alongside innovation and research. However, the function has branches to every business and function in Weir.

The Group Head of Sustainability will work with both internal and external stakeholders to mature Weir Group’s sustainability strategy and support the delivery of strategic sustainability priorities – both Accelerate Sustainable Mining and Deliver Sustainable Weir. The individual should be a highly resourceful individual with strategic vision and, business acumen, proven depth and breadth of functional expertise, strong personal ownership and honed collaboration and engagement skills.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategy: Lead the ongoing maturation of Weir’s sustainability strategy Partner with internal and external stakeholders to ensure focus on the highest impact and value Group-wide sustainability priorities, aligned with our core business strategy and purpose – Mining Technology for a Sustainable Future. Purposefully grow scope and ambition of Weir’s sustainability goals with clear intent and pragmatic trade-offs to maximize quantified impact for stakeholders.

Delivery & Governance: Drive the delivery of and value capture from Weir’s sustainability priorities. Provide sustainability leadership and expertise to initiate, incubate and support efficient delivery of Weir’s strategic sustainability priorities via cross-functional/cross-business collaboration. Lead Weir’s ESG reporting disclosures and provide functional expertise and challenge into multiple risk and governance forums including Board of Directors and Group Executive.

Engagement: Further mature alignment between Weir’s business and sustainability strategies. Develop clear and robustly quantifiable sustainability value propositions for key stakeholders including customers, investors and employees. Partner with the mining sector value chain and broader stakeholders to collectively drive the actions required for mining to scale-up and clean-up to provide the metals and minerals for the energy transition.

Job Knowledge/Education and Qualifications:

Educated to at least degree level or equivalent plus relevant sustainability focused postgraduate or professional qualification.

Relevant experience (minimum of 10 years) ideally within a listed company or company-advisory organization.

Proven track record of sustainability strategy development and delivery in senior sustainability roles, preferable in multi-national manufacturing organization.

Proven commercial and operational business acumen based on a broad understanding of all aspects of business

Excellent communication and influencing skills and the ability to effectively present information to senior management, various stakeholders, Group Executive and Board of Directors.

· Experience and the ability to interact and influence across a wide range of internal and external stakeholders and particularly at senior management levels.

A collaborative leader with excellent listening skills who builds rapport quickly and uses a consultative and coaching approach to working with the business.

Enthusiastic with the desire and ability to deliver; a capacity to overcome barriers and drive change

Moderate travel in the UK and international travel to engage with the businesses and attend knowledge building events and meetings. There will also be a requirement for international travel when taking part in Group initiatives. Regular visits to the Glasgow office would be preferred.
