Group Lead - Electrical Engineering

Introduction to the job

ASML US brings together the most creative minds in science and technology to develop lithography machines that are key to producing faster, cheaper, more energy-efficient microchips. We design, develop, integrate, market and service these advanced machines, which enable our customers-the world’s leading chipmakers-to reduce the size and increase the functionality of their microchips, which in turn leads to smaller, more powerful consumer electronics. Our headquarters are in Veldhoven, the Netherlands, and we have 18 office locations around the United States including main offices in Chandler, Arizona, San Jose and San Diego, California, Wilton, Connecticut, and Hillsboro, Oregon.

Roles and responsibilities

People Manager for Electronic Development Engineers. 

Competency development.

Shape the way the team develops electrical systems.

Develop required expertise to meet current and future needs.

Identify training and hiring targets to meeting competency needs.

Develop hiring strategy, review resumes, interview candidates to fill competency gaps in team.

Resource planning.

Allocate staff to projects to support project and program deliverables.

Participate in program level planning based on availability of staff and competency.

Manage risks and customer requirements.

Identify technical and quality risks based on input from architects and design engineers.

Develop long term strategy to reduce technical and quality risk.

Hold regular meetings to provide information to team and maintain a transparent organization.

Communicate status and issues to direct and higher level management through formal and informal channels, escalate issues when appropriate.

Individual management.

Provide coaching to individuals and groups.

Set example for team of proper work ethic, technical knowledge, and interpersonal skills.

Identify individual performance issues and develop corrective actions.

Ability to break down complex problems with limited data to come to solutions - strong critical thinking capability.

Be willing to jump in on new issues, get to the bottom of the causes and propose practical solutions.

Be able to interface with multidisciplinary groups; lead a team; be willing to take on responsibility, follow through and keep multiple simultaneous projects on schedule.

Ownership of the accuracy and quality of all product documentation.

Effective leveraging of the complementary skills and capabilities of your team.

Develop and maintain a learning environment – maintain and track lessons learned.

Strategic planning for the group including emerging technological or resource gap assessments, development and execution of hiring plans.

Education and experience

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience.

Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field is a plus.

Experience leading engineering teams.

Multiple years’ experience as designer of electronic functions and sub-systems, including experience with working in multidisciplinary design.  

Experience leading engineering teams.

Experience presenting to executive leadership.  

Experience working in a project-oriented team 

The following qualifications are a plus:

Deep technical expertise.

A deep understanding of electronics development in a team.

Proven record of delivering complex hardware for a high tech company.

Role within Office 
Responsibilities: 

Routinely required to sit; walk; talk; hear; use hands to keyboard, finger, handle, and feel; stoop, kneel, crouch, twist, reach, and stretch. Occasionally required to move around the campus. 

Occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. 

May require travel dependent on business needs. 

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Safely working around lasers; on ladders; on platforms; around chemicals; near strong magnetic fields; around high voltage and currents.

The employee is occasionally required to move around the campus.

This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the United States Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. § 730, et seq.). Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require ASML to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.
