Position Overview
We are seeking enthusiastic and compassionate Group Leaders to join our After-School and Summer Camp Youth Development Programs. In this role, you will mentor and supervise elementary and middle school students, fostering a safe, engaging, and supportive environment.
As a positive role model, you will lead fun, interactive, and educational activities that encourage creativity, teamwork, and personal growth. This position is available at multiple locations across Queens, NY.
Key ResponsibilitiesProgram Leadership & Activity Facilitation
✔ Supervise and engage students in daily activities, ensuring a safe and inclusive environment.
✔ Plan and implement age-appropriate lesson plans that combine learning, creativity, and fun.
✔ Provide academic support, including homework assistance and study skills development.
Collaboration & Communication
✔ Work closely with the Educational Specialist, Program Director, and Assistant Directors to align activities with program goals.
✔ Maintain clear and professional communication with students, staff, families, and school partners.
✔ Assist in the coordination of special events, field trips, and thematic projects.
Student Engagement & Safety
✔ Foster a nurturing and positive environment that promotes respect, teamwork, and personal growth.
✔ Ensure the safety and security of all students and properly store materials and secure program spaces at the end of each session.
✔ Serve as a mentor and role model, demonstrating professionalism and respect.
Professional Development & Compliance
✔ Attend weekly staff meetings and complete required training to enhance skills and program effectiveness.
✔ Adhere to program policies, procedures, and safety protocols in alignment with QCH and funding guidelines.
✔ Perform additional duties as assigned to support overall program success.
Qualifications
✔ Age Requirement: Must be at least 18 years old.
✔ Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Enrollment in a college program (Education, Sociology, Social Work, or related field) is a plus.
✔ Experience: At least 1 year of experience leading youth activities in after-school, summer camp, or similar settings.
✔ Skills:
+ Strong group management, facilitation, and conflict resolution skills.
+ Ability to remain composed and solution-focused in challenging situations.
+ Experience working with elementary or middle school-aged youth preferred.
✔ Technical Skills: Basic computer proficiency and strong verbal & written communication skills.
✔ Clearances: Must pass NYS DOH & DOE Fingerprinting, NYS Clearance Review, three reference checks, and a physical exam (including TB test).
