Purpose of Position

Assist the Department Manager with resource management responsibilities over area assigned and act as Lead Engineer on assigned projects.

Tasks and Responsibilities

Assist the Department Manager with resource management responsibilities, including by not limited to

Directly supervises 2-15 non-supervisory employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Screening, interviewing and selection of applicants. Department staffing levels, including submission and tracking of requisitions. Training of teammates to perform assigned duties. Completion of annual appraisals Assigning teammates to projects

 

Act as a Lead Engineer including but not limited to

Act on behalf of the Director of Engineering for the assigned project. Serve as primary Engineering interface to the customer, Program Office, Manufacturing, and outside vendors. Aid Project Manager in the development of Engineering inputs to project budget and schedule. Produce a Technical/Engineering Risk Assessment during pre-launch planning and aid the Project Manager in developing the overall Project Risk Assessment. Maintain the engineering risk assessment through the life of the project and keep it updated.  In consultation with individual Resource Managers, coordinate actions of Engineering Teammates assigned to the project (administrative tasks remain purview of Resource Managers) Coordinate and lead technical exchanges with OEMs and vendors. Oversee resolution of Engineering related project issues, both internal and external to FSS Provide feedback to resource managers on individual teammate performance for standout and poor performers to aid in preparation of annual appraisals. Share best practices across all Lead Engineers
 

Other Duties include:

Exhibit and practice professional and courteous behavior while interacting with both internal and external customers. Must be able to work as a TEAM member. Interact within a cooperative environment through beneficial behavior, commitment to common goals, contribution to problem solving, communication of ideas and suggestions, and encouragement to other employees and departments. Accountable for the control and distribution of documents and/or equipment subject to export control restrictions and the security of FSI materials, projects and business information regarding the methods and techniques used in the production and usage of FSI products. Accountable for the accuracy and completeness of assigned tasks. Able to adhere to a work schedule including prompt and regular attendance. Willingness and ability to work overtime and different shifts to accommodate schedules/tasks as required. Travel to domestic and foreign FlightSafety and/or customer sites as required. Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner. Minimum Education

Bachelor's degree in applicable Engineering discipline

Minimum Experience

Minimum of 10 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge and expertise required for this level usually results from progressive experience, however, selection for this position is based on the demonstrated ability of the person to successfully fulfill the requirements.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

SOFTWARE KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Sufficient software knowledge to technically interface with the department employees.

 

HARDWARE KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Sufficient hardware knowledge to technically interface with the department employees.

 

EQUIPMENT KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

PC’s and basic office equipment. Sufficient equipment skills to technically interface with the department employees.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Fluency in English, through both verbal and written communications. Able to read, analyze, and interpret general business documents, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Able to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Able to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients and customers.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Able to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Able to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis. Sufficient mathematical skills to technically interface with the department employees.

 

REASONING ABILITY:

Able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Able to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Physical Demands and Work Environment

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and high, precarious places. The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
