Job Summary
McLean Hospital is a comprehensive psychiatric hospital committed to providing easy access to superior quality, cost-effective mental health services in the Boston area, Massachusetts and beyond. Since 1811, McLean Hospital has been a world leader in the treatment of mental illness and chemical dependency, research into the cause of mental illness and the training of generations of mental health care providers. McLean's multidisciplinary programs treat a broad range of psychiatric illnesses across the full continuum of care.The incumbent is responsible for providing weekend group psychotherapy on inpatient units. Provided groups will fit within
the following frameworks: 1) educational, 2) social interaction, and 3) community-making. They will work with the Director of
Inpatient Group Therapy, Belmont, and specific units' Inpatient Group Coordinators to facilitate group experiences and
support the needs of the identified client populations. Additionally, they are encouraged to participate in other hospital
activities, including, as time allows, committees, teaching, training, and research.
Qualifications
Essential Functions (Key Roles & Responsibilities)
Provides group to clients as assigned. Interventions should be structured appropriately to the specific clientele being
served. Therapist will be responsible for both set-up before and clean-up after the group occurs.
The therapist provides a non-judgmental environment in which clients can process and verbalize personal insight and
awareness of their issues.
When appropriate, provide consultation to clinical teams based on specific areas of expertise/training.
Documents inpatient hospital group forms within established time parameters and in accordance with hospital
procedures.
Follows all established group therapy protocols.
Reviews and contributes to specified programs’ Group Resources Manual, which details group descriptions, goals,
methods, and resources.
Maintains contact with other clinical staff and unit leadership through participation in meetings as necessary.
Alerts appropriate staff (e.g., Nurse Director, Medical and/or Clinical Director, Treatment Teams) of emergent clinical
issues that occur during group sessions.
Consults with program staff in development of skills training groups.
Performs other duties as assigned
