The Growth & Innovation (G&I) team at EIX is looking for a teammate who is passionate about identifying, evaluating and investing in new technologies/business models in the energy and cleantech sectors’ rapidly changing landscape. The team engages actively in venture investments and has a strong external network, as well as close connection with our subsidiaries, including SCE (electric utility) and Trio (energy services advisory firm).
In this role, you will scan the ecosystem of early-stage cleantech companies, scout opportunities, and support strategic venture investments. You will advance new business ideas and strategies and will present these insights to senior management, including members of the C-suite and leadership at EIX, SCE and Trio.

Core parts of the job include:Scouting and investigating new areas of opportunities
Industry engagement: Engage with startups, accelerators, incubators and research organizations to maintain a pulse on leading-edge innovations and inform venture investment opportunities Thematic deep-dives/innovation sprints: Conduct targeted analyses (e.g., competitive landscape, value chain, key players, customer segments) in key domains such as electric mobility, grid of the future and digital/AI solutions Sourcing and screening of ideas: Feed pipeline of ideas from new technologies or startups, understand their business case, and link their value proposition with Edison’s strategy Advancing venture and innovation activities Venture pipeline and portfolio: Screen, evaluate and develop venture investment pipeline to enable continued deal flow, and engage with existing portfolio of venture companies Deal evaluation and due diligence: Support commercial diligence of new or follow-on venture transactions and other growth opportunities, including quantitative analysis as needed (e.g., market models, valuation, forecasts, etc.) to help assess opportunities Innovation thought leadership: Bring together industry thought leaders, push perspectives on new technologies and business models to the forefront, and shape the thinking across Edison Driving value into our core business Cross-company collaboration: Partner with key technology, strategy and innovation groups across Edison to understand technology needs and pain points, share external insights we gather from the market, and connect them to real-world solution providers Internal business development: Work closely with various Edison business units to drive necessary changes in our technology strategy and enable an effective tech transfer model via pilots, demos and partnerships Insight sharing: Communicate and discuss findings on innovation trends, themes, and key developments with executives and technology leaders of EIX and its subsidiariesA material job duty of all positions within the Company is ensuring the protection of all its physical, financial and cybersecurity assets, and properly accessing and managing private customer data, proprietary information, confidential medical records, and other types of highly sensitive information and data with the highest standards of conduct and integrity.
Qualifications you need … Five or more years of combined experience in corporate innovation/strategy/development roles (e.g., developing and implementing business strategies such as launching new products or implementing large scale companywide initiatives), startup incubators/accelerators, corporate venture investing, commercial or entrepreneurship roles (e.g., startups), venture capital, strategy/management consulting, or investment bankingOther details that will set you up for success …
Bachelor’s degree in business, economics, finance, engineering, or a related field and/or equivalent combination of education and experience Experience, knowledge and/or a strong curiosity in energy, e-mobility, and clean technologies; strong background in innovation in these areas is a plus Strong team orientation, ability to collaborate with teams in order to accomplish individual goals Being comfortable in a dynamic work environment and able to cut through uncertainty to proactively move ideas forward Experience communicating complex analyses and information to senior management You should know This position’s work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days. Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to reside in the state of California. Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage.
