GSE Supervisor

Job Description:

Job Summary

The GSE Supervisor at AGI, based at Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD), is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day maintenance and repair of ground support equipment (GSE). This role involves leading a team of mechanics, ensuring all GSE is maintained to the highest standards of safety, reliability, and efficiency. The GSE Supervisor will coordinate maintenance schedules, monitor equipment performance, and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards, while also working closely with other departments to support AGI’s operational needs.

Job Responsibilities

Team Supervision: Lead, manage, and supervise a team of GSE mechanics, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure the efficient and effective maintenance of all ground support equipment.

Maintenance Coordination: Oversee and coordinate routine maintenance, repairs, and preventative maintenance on GSE, including tugs, tractors, belt loaders, ground power units (GPUs), and other equipment.

Technical Support: Provide hands-on support and technical expertise in diagnosing and repairing complex mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems within the GSE fleet.

Safety Compliance: Ensure all maintenance activities are conducted in accordance with AGI’s safety protocols and comply with federal, state, and local regulations. Conduct regular safety inspections and audits to maintain a safe working environment.

Scheduling and Resource Management: Develop and manage maintenance schedules to minimize equipment downtime and ensure all GSE is operational when needed. Coordinate the allocation of resources, including labor and parts, to meet operational demands.

Inventory Control: Monitor and manage the inventory of parts and supplies needed for GSE maintenance, ensuring timely availability and minimizing downtime.

Performance Monitoring: Track and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) related to GSE maintenance, such as equipment uptime, repair turnaround times, and safety incidents. Report on these metrics to management.

Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the maintenance team. Promote a culture of continuous improvement and safety within the team.

Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, including Operations, Fleet Management, and Planning, to ensure GSE maintenance aligns with AGI’s overall operational goals. Facilitate communication between mechanics and other teams to resolve issues and improve equipment reliability.

Training and Development: Provide ongoing training and development opportunities for GSE mechanics to ensure they have the skills and knowledge needed to perform their duties effectively.

Skills and Qualifications

Leadership Experience: Proven experience in supervising a team of mechanics or technicians, ideally within GSE maintenance or a similar environment.

Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems as they relate to ground support equipment.

Safety and Compliance Knowledge: In-depth understanding of safety standards, regulations, and best practices related to GSE maintenance in an airport environment.

Organizational Skills: Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and schedules effectively.

Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to lead a team and collaborate effectively with other departments.

Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to troubleshoot and solve complex equipment issues quickly and effectively.

Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in GSE maintenance, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.

Preferred Experience

Airport Environment: Previous experience working in an airport environment, with familiarity with the unique challenges and demands of GSE maintenance at a busy international airport like ORD.

Technical Certification: Certification in automotive, diesel mechanics, or a related field is preferred.
